I'm considering buying a new car to replace my Impreza P1, as I am fed up spending money on the thing.

My requirements are for a fun road car that is also capable of regular trackdays and not too expensive to run.

I have had a test-drive in a BRZ, but not a 265 yet, as my nearest RenaultSport dealer is bloody miles away and they don't even have a demonstrator.

See the story about Litchfield's supercharger kit for the BRZ. Amazing value.

Yes, that is a definite factor in my including the BRZ. Something that I could add to it later.

Guess it depends what you are after tbh.

Are you looking at new, or used? And do you have a budget in mind?

Personally if going hatchback and Renault, I'd personally much prefer a tidy R26.R over the 265.

I know the 265 is quick and hugely capable. But I think most of the time I'd just have more fun in something like the BRZ. I think it's a car you can enjoy to be in as much as drive. Sleek looking, low slung, sporty driving position. Things most hatchbacks can't achieve due to the nature of their design.

If you only need two seats I'd also personally be looking at other alternatives.

Before anyone else suggests it: BMW M135i?

BRZ appears to be the auto version in the Evo vid.

Keep the P1. Running costs will be far cheaper than depreciation smile

Need 4 seats? I had a m135i and also found it a superb all rounder but wasn't what I was looking in a car....

Drove the brz....loved it but....needed a bit more thump....maybe when the sti one comes out I'll revisit.

Megane 265 was also superb but Renault residuals put me off. Look what 2/3 year old 250's are worth.

Ended up in wild card choice....mini gp. Very happy with it. Just my type of car, proper little hooligan of a thing, the faster/harder you push the better it gets and the brakes are tremendous, even in 2 short sessions at kirkstown no sign of any fade.

A used r26r is also a good shout, if you can find a good one, I also considered a z4m coupe.

Great insights, thanks. Z4M is on my potential "used" list. Hadn't considered the Mini GP.

Out of interest what's gone wrong? Hopefully once it's fixed, it's fixed for good.

Although to be fair, it was on a lap of the 'Ring...whistle

It goes before Wehrseifen and luckily I am able to exit at Breidscheid. You can really hear it at the end of the vid as I pull off.
