My four year old has asked to go to London during Half term so I am going to take him for a couple of days to do the touristy thing.

Need to book a hotel for a night, can any one recommend something central and decent?

Budget around £200-250.

Thanks.

I usually just jump on lastminute or laterooms the day before and find something. Marlin apartments near St Pauls is nice, and central too. The Grange hotel in St Pauls also very nice.

If you do a search on lastminute.com, then sort the results by distance from a particular destination, you will see the secret hotels appear next to the actual hotel that they are. It's easy to see as you can often see the number of reviews will match up, and the secret hotels also tell you the % discount, so you can also use that to work out which hotel it is. I have stayed in the Grange several times doing this, usually for around £130 rather than £300 to £400.

Prices do fluctuate massively though depending on what's going on - if you go when there is a sports event on, or an exhibition or something, prices can be huge. If you don't need to go on a particular day, try and plan around these.

I have also stayed here a number of times:

It's in Limehouse which is one stop from Bank on the DLR. It's not the greatest area, but easy to get to, and convenient. It's also very good value, clean and well equipped.

I'm assuming you don't have points to spend (if not, sign up for the points scheme for whatever hotel chain you choose).

Marriott Grosvenor Square is good (walking distance from Oxford St and Selfridges) as is the W Hotel (but probably a bit too funky for a child). Not sure on current prices as I always pay with points smile

We stayed here http://www.thetrafalgar.com just before Christmas. It was very good and surprisingly reasonable given its location

Recently stayed at the Z hotel in Victoria. The rooms are small but very clean and stylish, and location wise it's spot on being 5-10mins stroll from Buckingham Palace. I'd stay there again.

have a look around glocester road tube station for hotels. Near science museum, near the posh mews with lovely cars on display/ car dealers.
