3kish what car
Discussion
My grandad has left me some money. I plan to use some of it to get an extra a level to hopefully get onto an Nhs funded uni course. I am going to set aside some money for a car. I can either get a bangenomics car or can spend 3k on something bit nicer that hopefully last bit longer.
Criteria are. Reliable, moderately quick, insurance not too expensive reasonable fuel efficiency for power.
Off top of my head was thinking leon cupra, fiesta ST etc but open to all ideas. Won't be doing loads of miles initially so don't think I need a diesel but I'm open to that if I think it's it's justified thinking like fabia vrs

Fiesta ST means none of those criteria, apart from being reasonably swift.
Skoda Fabia VRS
VW Polo 1.9 TDI Sport
Citroen C2 VTS HDI
You could get an early high mileage Civic 2.2 CDTI for not a lot more.
Seat Ibizas are usually cheap to buy and to insure and there is a decent range of engines.

I'd second the Ibiza recommendation, cheaper than a polo, the inside's a but more plastic but pretty nippy. If you're not doing the milage it's probably not worth bothering with modern diesels as the increased purchase cost, as well as possible DPF issues if doing lots of short journeys, will eat in to any fuel saving.
