Am I being ripped off by porsche???
Discussion
My annual service was due to on my 996 so I got the car booked in for a major service. I thought that this included spark plugs but as it didn't I swapped it to a minor service £265 as the only difference was the air filter (£10)????
They gave me a new porsche Boxster curtesy car which was absolutely fantastic until I was following a fiesta on a country lane and went over a pot hole! The tyre went flat although there was no damage to the alloy but obviously no spare wheel so I called the dealership and 2hrs later a recovery truck came for the car.
I paid £16 the day before to cover me on their insurance and agreed the excess of £250. The following day they called me and said that I would have to pay £253 to cover the tyre. I thought expensive service but could have happened to me at any point so said that I would take it on the chin.
On reflection I am thinking that the car in front went over the same pot hole and was fine (but he wouldn't have 20" rims). Also i work for Motorpoint car supermarket and we have had customers bump cars with £2500 worth of damage and not charged them a penny.
What has really annoyed me is that I left the service lady my card details and she said that she would put the invoice in the post. It has arrived today with a note saying sorry but she made a mistake and forgot to add vat on top of the price of the tyre and has therefore deducted over £300 from my account without my permission!!!

You mention cars from your place that have been bumped and having £2500 damage and not charging the driver; well one would assume that would be an insurance job so therefore the worst that you could have done would have had to charge the driver the excess, but your company chose not to, a tyre wouldn't be covered under insurance so really it's just up to the Porsche dealer to decide whether to take it on the chin themselves or charge you for the tyre, they chose the latter; which I would say there were perfectly entitled to do so as their car was in your charge at the time.
It all comes down to a goodwill gesture, they decided not to extend you any goodwill and they are entitled to do so, however I would be inclined to at least query the "VAT" payment on the tyre, the lady told you a price, she screwed up so really you should pay the lower price, particularly as they didn't check with you first before charging you more than agreed.

Why the f
k are they charging you vat? Are you taking the tyre home with you??
If it's for the businesses car, then they won't pay any vat on the tyre anyway. Vat only applies to the things you BUY from the dealership.
And by law, they should be charging you the cost of the tyre at the price they get the tyre for, they aren't allowed to slap on their dealer margin. There's a law about this, can't remember which one.
Unless I'm very much mistaken....

I dont see this being wholly different to kerbing one of the alloys. Yes it could be described as 'accidental' but in some way its a form of lack of care for which you would rightly have to pay for. Same with the tyre - ultimately you smacked a 20 inch alloy through a pothole that hard that it burst the tyre. They gave me a new porsche Boxster curtesy car which was absolutely fantastic until I was following a fiesta on a country lane and went over a pot hole! Personally i'd probably suck it up RE: the VAT, but you could certainly query it and see what they say.
