Car decided, looking for a Defender, 110SW XS - was at the local dealer yesterday and having been out in a test drive of there current test model came back to arrange the purchase of a car at one of there other sites (Which had been arranged before the test drive) - it had sold while out on the test drive.

Looking for, a Station Wagon (7 seat) XS - so heated screen and leather seats, under 40K miles and either the 2.4 or 2.5 puma engine. Anything but zermatt silver, and looking around the 17/18K mark.

So, anyone on pistonheads have such a car/truck/van in stock?

Best place to check is Defender2.net - a decent forum of serious enthusiasts.

We had one for a year (that exact model) and sadly it was a bit of a lemon - still loved it but the dealers Used Approved (a main dealer) turned out to be very poor. TBH we had so much fixed it will probably now run forever.

You'll be looking at a 2.4 or 2.2 not the 2.5 - that was the pre 2007 Td5 model.

If you find one, inspect it VERY carefully in person. If you get a good one, they are very good. Oh and you MUST try and get 2010 or later if at all possible (I'd need to double check) - they re-classified them and they went from top rate RFL (£460 for our 57 plate) to £200.

If you're in the South West, Roger Young is a SUPERB dealer.

Interesting news regarding it being reclassified - makes a slightly later one seem a much better deal. - I was looking at 57/58
EDIT: Seems the reclassification is only applicable to the 110 with no rear seats and panelled sides rather than 7 seats.

I'm in the North, near Glasgow, but I have a specialist near by with a good name I was planning on using.

2008 Used Approved Defender XS 110 on it's way, 35K miles, and appears to have been used as someones car rather than a work horse due to condition, pick it up next Friday, getting an (official) A-bar fitted before delivery.

Ideal! That's what you need; ours was an ex roofers truck and had towed a lot of weight regularly; not good!

Enjoy yours!

Heard on the BBC radio today, Defenders are becoming one of `the' most nicked vehicles. so if buying one from an individual, check its background / history carefully.

also... try to invest in some good security.

Physical measures are the best as electronic security is easily disabled/bypassed.

I have always liked Land Rovers, Defenders, and Range Rovers (except perhaps the Range Rover sport)
but apart from having a Land Rover for a year (long story) in purely practical terms, don't really seem to have a use for one. Do any other pistonheaders see vehicles they have no need of whatsoever, but nevertheless still want one?

I heard that, its from a Land Rover dealer (Stratstone) so should be ok from them! Thinking about adding a tracker, slightly worried about that.

P.s I like the Land Rover Discovery the best. For me it is one of the best looking 4x4`s on the road.
better than the Range Rover, which in certain forms seems to look a bit of a barge.

When driving through Houston, there was a what appeared to be vast sea of brand new pick ups of all types along the side of the road, took nearly a minute to pass the site at around 50 mph, it was so large. I had / have no need whatsoever, for a very large American pick up, but still I got to wondering if they would miss just one.

Considering Ford sells 70,000 F-150's in just one month in the US, but only manages 80,000 Focus sales in the UK in an entire YEAR

they must be doing something right with their pickups wink
