As per the title really, have you ever hankered for a car, thought about it for ages but for some reason or another just didn't/couldn't bring yourself to buy it, if so, what and why?

It was a Clio Williams for me, I looked at a few and one minter in particular, which was a beautiful little car, but at the time we had just bought a house so I couldn't stretch to it, regret it big time and still intend to own one some day.

A Sierra Cosworth, mainly because I decided I'd rather not live with the stress of parking it up and worrying if it was being stolen whilst I was away. I was planning on buying either a Sierra Sapphire or a Sierra 4x4 and I had arranged a viewing of a Sapphire when I came to that decision.

Circa 10 or 11 years ago a local guy to me was selling a low mileage white RS500 Sierra Cosworth. Bear in mind this was back when prices were what would be considered normal & the cars hadn't made proper collector / store it away status yet.

I've no chance of buying one of them in the same condition now unless I came into a massive windfall, lottery win, etc as the equivalent car would cost £35k upwards now frown

A '68 camaro with a 327 in it, wanted £3k about 5/6 years ago. It was a bit snotty but easily worth £10k+ today.

Peugeot 205 xs

my 1.1 had been wrote off so needed wheels fast

Went to see this xs with a mate it was rough around the edges ,blue smoke, siliconed sunroof etc but it ran well came with lots of mot hardly any rot I walked away.

A week or so I bought an absolute shed of a saxo vtr with obvious accident damage after an inspection from my mechanic bro also the rot was so bad he advised me not to use the rear towing eye.

About 8 or 9 years ago. A skyline R34 GT-R Nur for 8k. Then a year later a Lotus Carlton for 6k.

Still kick myself at both of those decisions....

Around ten years ago i had thought about a E30 M3 or Lancia Integrale and didnt end up with either. Only chance of either now is a lottery win.

£8k Quattroporte about 4 years ago. It had a good history from the place who serviced my Alfa, but the thought of 8 cylinders, 4 camshafts, 32 valves and two turbos, all with a mind of their own in the end outweighed the thought of the sight of our accountant's face when he saw Maserati Quattroporte IV Evoluzione on my expenses claim smile

I ended up buying a Mazda 6 for exactly the same frown

Back in 2001 when I was 17, a customer of our was clearing his mother in laws house after she died, I got offered a 7k mile mk1 Polo for £300. Absolutely showroom condition, been her run about since new, kept in a heated garage, serviced every year without fail, valeted every couple of months. Basically, would fetch quite a pretty sum now. At the time, I just thought it was a crappy yellow old VW

A very nice, very orange fiat 131 sport as used in the WRC.
It was up for £450 in 1990 when I was running around in a hearing aid beige mk2 escort.

Just like this one

They only came out in 85 at a price of over £9000 so I doubt it was '85

Delta Integrale back in the late 90's, early 2000's. I could afford to buy one but the upkeep of it and the dodgy area I lived in didn't help. Now they're so expensive I can afford the upkeep but not the car frown
