Mrs P. Chicken's car (an '07 Volvo C30 D5) is due for a service soon, according to the handbook, which states that it should be carried out every 12,500 miles or annually, whichever comes sooner. The last service was done by Volvo last November at 28k, & since then she's done less than five thousand miles. Everything works & the car runs perfectly...
I suggested just getting the oil & filter changed, but she reckons that 'things stiffen up if they're not used enough' (insert your own joke here) & 'things leak with age'(don't we know it), & wants to spend big money on what I would consider to be an unnecessary service.

Who's right?

And that's a perfect example of why the chain should never be long enough to actually allow them out of the kitchen!!

Mrs Lescombes car is a 20,000 mile/2 year service interval...in the last 2 years she has done 7,000 miles... I serviced her car last week and fitted new disc rotors and pads on 80,000 miles (first time for this car). We used the 2 year service time due to her low mileage.

Change the oil & filter, top up the coolant & screenwash, the rest should look after itself for another 6 months at least.

What else would they do on this magic-powered service?
