Hi all,

I had this posted on my Facebook and thought it should be shared with the people that had so many words of respect from PH.

http://www.change.org/petitions/porsche-motorsport...

Porsche, you have the opportunity do something rare and very special. We are asking you to elect to hold the final two rounds of the 2013 Porsche SuperCup (rounds 8 and 9 on November 2/3 at the Yas Marina Circuit) as non-points scoring rounds.

We believe that the rightful champion of the 2013 season has already been crowned, however he won't be able to attend the final race to make it a formality. Racers and fans around the world are mourning the loss of driver, Sean Edwards, who currently leads the Supercup Championship by 18 points, with 3 wins in 7 races. With a win being worth 20 points, and Sean never having finished lower than 5th, he was bound to be champion. If his nearest competitor were to win both races at the final round, Sean would only need to match his worst finish so far (5th) and the championship would still go to him. If Sean were to win the first race of the weekend, he could park his car and score no points during race 2 - and still be champion. Even his competitors can't argue: Sean Edwards has dominated Porsche Supercup this year. He deserves the title.

We want to make sure that Sean goes down in the record books as he was in the hearts and minds of his family, friends and competitors: a Champion. Please dedicate the final two races of Porsche Supercup to Sean Edwards, implore your drivers to race in his honor and put on a fantastic show for the fans. Pay them their prize money and hire the good ones to factory drives for next year. But do not award them any points.

Please, Porsche; make Sean Edwards your 2013 SuperCup champion and celebrate in his honor at the championship party in Abu Dabhi.

Thank you,

Racing fans, Porsche fans and Sean Edwards fans everywhere

Jeremy.

Signed.

Cannot see that any driver competing in the championship would be overjoyed if they won the title this year.

I wonder, if Porsche say no, how many drivers will complete the first lap & then retire with 'engine problems'. No other way to do it if the request is denied.

Will be interesting to see what happens this coming week - a non points scoring race would be the best tribute though wouldnt it as well as all of the cars running completely devoid of any sponsors logo's.

It's a noble idea, but he was a racer.

Would he have wanted to be defaulted or have another driver let him win?

I said the same on FB, I don't agree with this at all & as little as I knew SE I doubt he would either.

To be honest, I think it's a bit off to foist someone's own emotional reasoning on a company, knowing that if they choose not to agree they come out looking like the bad guys.

Racing is racing, life moves on. We're it me people were petitioning for I'd be either embarrassed or annoyed that people thought I should win simply by emotional default.

I say the above as being a supporter when I've watched him live & on TV & my thoughts go out to his family & friends.

I hope he wins the title but it shouldn't default to him - that's racing, that's life.

I don't think this is what he would have wanted, he's a racer through and through. You only have to see the last round of the BTCC this year to see that there is no such thing as a forgone conclusion.

Let them race and what will be will be, a moment of silence before the race or on the podium would be more fitting.

Touching, but misguided.

I was discussing whether any of the other competitors would back off, or engineer it so he won the title posthumously with a colleague.

How don't know how the Porsche series is governed, but nonsense like the penalty in MotoGP and Hamilton being denied his rightful win at Spa in 2008 undermines the validity of championships I am afraid.

The Championship should continue and the winner could dedicate it, mention Edwards when given the trophy?

This.

I'm sure the best possible tribute to a top racing driver would be see two properly competitive races where anything could happen.

never going to happen. if porsche or any of the teams [let alone edwards' family or his ethereal self] wanted this then they'd just stay at home and save spunking the cash required to compete. all racers accept the risks, none would see this proposal as anything other than misguided.

I can't help thinking would Sean want this... I can't help thinking he wouldn't.
I've already posted my condolences elsewhere.

A loss that leaves many of us sad and angry.

Agreed. Compassionate but you won't find many racers signing up to that sort of sentimentality.

If the drivers chose to make an agreement among themselves I'd applaud it but for the public to use the emotional angle is wrong.
