No idea what political correctness has to do with anything, nor why this is deemed newsworthy.

Interesting

Basically where I live we have 20 zones and the police have admitted that they are not enforcable for speeding as yet, due to law.

So i wonder whether this was pointed out to them and they have done the pretence of training rather than backing down and admitting as such?

Still don't see your point.

Bloke was speeding in a job (and at the time, on the job) that involves both driving and sensitivities to risk. Sounds like an honest mistake, but if it's company policy, tough. Pay attention when driving.

He sounds like a good egg, community supports him, chances are he'll get his job back. I hope he does, I'm happy for the guy. I'm happy when cats get rescued from trees, doesn't mean it's fking news.

Again, what is the 'political correctness' comment referring to?

Lets hope you're not laying on the pavement one day, with your ticker misfiring, and the guy who can save your life is poodling towards you at 20mph. On a road that was 30mph the day before. And had been for 50yrs. Try this, it works for me.

IIRC the First Responder only gets called out whet a real Paramedic isn't available.
Rather than sack a guy who gives his time freely to help out, they should be asking why the Ambulance Service failed in the first place.
WRT the man in question, a simple " Thank you" from the Ambulance Service would have been sufficient to cover it.

He'd still be speeding, wasn't he done for 33 mph?

He's a volunteer first responder and I'm guessing it was made pretty clear in his training that the position is not a licence to speed.

Why couldn't he just be given the choice of paying to attend a SAC? I can think of two comparable cases.

Sadly you can want to help, be part of Cameron's long forgotten 'Big Society' and end up being worse off for it. It happens.

I guess some assessment was made about whether he'd get to the scene before the Ambulance Service, and what was up with the person?

Did the emergency require the breaking of the limit? Who was around when the limit was broken? Who was at risk?

'Rules are rules....' unless you're a fibbing police federation spokesman. They were only telling fibs to save someone's life too weren't they?

People can do the completely wrong thing, but if it's within the rules....

OP. You shouldn't have started this thread.

You should have known what ridiculous replies you were going to get.

Fun, isn't it!!! Like starting office rumours!!! Someone always takes the bait. Still feel sorry for the sod though, try to help, and the goodie squad gets you.

Based on your posts on PHs I don't think you'd make the cut for the second group.

Just to clarify, I do support the First Responders Diesel Octavia Estate Owners Club and even did a trackday with them recently. Those funky fluorescent Skodas don't half shift!

If number of people saved by First Responder > number of people mown down by speeding First responder then on balance its a good idea to let them exceed the speed limit. They are driving a high vis vehicle (with flashing green lights?)

Include the cost saving in the equation and a bit of leeway should be exercised. Not a Carte Blanche but every case assessed on its merits would seem suitable.

It's not Political Correctness, it's more a Jobsworth Bottom Inspectorate adherence to rules, and a one size fits all dictat and no ability or willingness to consider the circumstances. Give someone a rosette.

Even laws the police are supposed to use on us have exceptions depending on the circumstances.

This chap was doing "13" over the limit.

You can use %'s and fractions to make it look worse but it was still 13 mph on his way to saving someone's life.

With so much cotton wool wrapping everybody up its no wonder the country is becoming uncompetitive.

'His car was recorded doing 33mph by the ambulance service's in-car logging system as he drove through a 20mph zone.'

1. Information or data doesn't have value unless you use it.

2. 'If you've done nothing wrong you have nothing to fear'? rolleyes

What was it someone posted here on PH about that high-fiving Lollypop man in Plymouth?

I was once dicussing the Big Brother ID card with a police woman, and she said 'You can usually find some dirt on everyone', which sounded like 'You can usually find something wrong with a vehicle' as said to me by a retired police officer that rode motorcycles as part of their job.

If the Bottom Inspectors don't exercise their full jobsworthiness then they risk seeming to be unprodutive and just another overhead.
