Sorry if this should be in the Computer forum. Please move if so.

I have a spare laptop and a OBD> USB adaptor

I am after software that will allow me to monitor and record a live stream of data (i.e. on a road test) of data.

I will then want to make mechanical adjustments on the vehicle and monitor the same parameters.

I would like to be able to over lap the data (pre & post change)

I will be mainly monitoring Lambda sensor readouts, but may occasionally need other info too (fuel trim etc)

Preferably free or cheap program but if its costs, then it costs.

Please let me know if you have any recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

Torque Pro, recently loaded it onto my Samsung note. Adaptor is Bluetooth and it works really well!

Thanks, but that looks android based. the laptop is dedicated just for this, it wont serve any other purpose.

afaik the rosstech software (VCDS aka vagcom) is free but only works with rosstech adapters.
google it, download it, give it a try?
Only one I've ever used (other than torque on my phone which I've not had much joy with!)

eta: they do a free-for-non-commercial shareware "lite" version which will work with 3rd party adapters http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds-lite/download/index....
pro version seems to work without issues so give it a go.

Just to be non helpful - I downloaded a ton of different programs to try and get one to work, but couldn't succeed (that was with a RX8 though, so that might have confused matters). Ended up buying a standalone device off ebay...

I do have one of the standaolne jobbies, but it only provides an error code that i can then clear, i need to do more about actually reading parameters and the change between. kind of R&D use.

Interesting scratchchin.
The pro version of VCDS at least has built in logging, albeit at a slow (and variable) rate, but I think the rate is dependent on the OBD standard and hence capabilities rather than the software.
For all I know the freeware version does too but obviously that's not licensed for commercial use. Although the website isn't clear what versions are licensed for what.
VCDS is afaik the correct tool for that sort of thing though. Although I imagine there are more expensive versions which possibly integrate into certain test and measurement environments.
