Let me share a little story from my commute in this morning and start off by saying that I perhaps was not as angelic in this as I could have been, but I do feel a line has been crossed. maybe even twice.

There is a three carriage way road that merges into two, with no right of way for either either side. Cars normally take turns letting each other through. The car next to me (a nice blue Subaru Impreza) was letting me through, but I thought it was sort of his turn so I let him pass, I didn't however let in the white van behind him, or I would be there all day, which must have pissed him off as he proceeded to follow me so close I could not see his headlights in the rear view mirror. As the road turns to 50mph from that merge I started accelerating away as did he but from the inside lane. The problem was there was no room, as I was already gaining on the car in front of him so he just decided to take up the spot I was in. Needless to say I was annoyed at being rammed off the road, so as we started slowing down to join a 30 minute traffic jam of three lanes, him being in the outside lane and me moving into the middle I stopped side by side, made sure there was a good eye contact and flipped him the bird.

He then got in behind and let his van come to a gentle stop, assisted by my tow-bar.
Not satisfied he then pulled up left of me and threw his coffee over my wind shield, then took the exit.

I could go on about how much hurt I want to cause him in my impotent rage, but frankly I've had a lot of time to calm down and think that I made the right choice by not trying to one-up that bell-end. I quite like the idea of not having a criminal record and free of unnecessary bodily harm.

I do however have one of those on-board cameras, although I doubt being shunted from behind can be proven or even discerned in the front facing footage, the other antics should be clear enough.

Any suggestions as to where to go from here? Move on with my life? Do everything possible to remove the psychopath off our roads or anything in between?

3 carriageway? Forwards, backwards and back in time?

I'm guessing 'rammed' is using a bit of creative license?

If rammed = Police
If moved over because he was coming that way = let it go.

Sorry The carraige way was all in one direction, by rammed i meant he simply steered his vehicle into my spot, forcing me to brake and move to the verge.

Also is it possible to check if a vehicle is private or owned by a company based on the reg plate?

I would have another coffee and think I was a bit of a tt to get involved and flicking the finger.

You both sound as bad as each other.

This was my impression. What were you expecting to happen when you did that?

As much as it's a pain, I doubt letting him in would have resulted in you 'being there all day'.
Obviously the guy is a clown, as displayed by the tailgating, but why choose to give him a hand gesture?
Just let him get on his merry way, you either risk damage to your car or yourself if he is unhinged.

Wait what?
Before this thread turns into "this did not go the way you expected OP" Can I just clarify:

I get bullied off my spot/lane
I flipped the bird
I get driven into from behind
I am on the RECEIVING end of the coffee

If you have got that, then no probs, happy to take the criticism.

Takes two to tango. You started it by flipping the bird, until then he had just pushed in front of you. If you had accepted this nothing else would have happened.

Well yes, but then being a passive driver all the time in fear of the odd clown, I would overall get places a lot slower and cause those behind me to make slower progress too. Overly hesitant drivers are not much better, no?

I could easily end up in the same situation as I'm terrible for not letting things go sometimes. I often feel like a bit of a tit afterwards for getting involved. I would just leave it, and maybe put the clip on youTube if it's amusing.

Absolutely, you would have been delayed by the length of a van.

Why is "overly hesitant" = "passive driver"?

You sound just as big a cock as the van driver.

It's not a case of being passive, it's a case of working out who the idiots are and keeping out of their way. If I see that someone isn't going to let me merge, then I just drop back a bit and fall in behind them.

If a driver did that to me I'd have got out and had a few words.
But then I wouldn't have given him the finger.

I'm sure you had plenty of time whilst stationary to speak to him.
You bottled it that's why he escalated it.

Pussy.

The roads are teeming with bellends. Best not to get involved.
