Under £7000, must be Japanese, fairly new, exciting, reasonably quick as a guide say under 8s 0-60, will be used everyday so as a guide no lower than 27mpg, doesn't need to be 4 seater but id prefer it, preferably FWD or 4WD.

Suggestions please, so far I can only come up with the space ship Civic Type R and Colt Ralliart.

Subaru Forester XT. Pretty bulletproof build, you can drive it up a mountain but it's a rocket ship too.

It's just such a strange set of requirements and wants. And certainly none that seem to be based on logic or common sense. It made me laugh.

He'll suggest a 60's Camaro or a TR7. Or a Hummvee. Probably.

I don't think so, what part defies logic or common sense?

He'll suggest something completely and utterly innappropriate.

Despite owning a car that could possibly fit the bill, a 4WD Impreza, he'll likely suggest something LHD, RWD, with awful fuel economy, not enough seats, and ugly as sin.
TR7?

I would think my Impreza isn't new enough, nor fuel efficient enough for the op.

Its easily new enough, I think it will be too expensive for me to run though.

The fact that the provenance of a car has anything to do with what you actually want from it.
(Other than tired borderline-racist cliches...)

Why limit yourself unnecessarily to one region?
Most manufacturers these days try to cover a whole range of potential use with their various models.
Plus - you know - corporate cross ownership: is Renault French or Japanese?, is Mazda American or Japanese? is Lotus British or Malaysian? etc...

Oh and most cars a modular by design these days so often the tier 1 suppliers will be a completely different nationality. Exiges have Toyota engines - is that Japanese enough for you???

Recaro seats? No thank you very much - those Italians know nothing about fine leather and ergonomics - get me a Nissan seat RIGHT NOW.

I find few people these days that consider a 1999 vehicle to be "newish". Did you have an age range in mind?

How about a DC5 Integra?

They seem to get ignored amid the hype surrounding the DC2 but they're every bit as good in my opinion.

Admittedly a bit older than some other suggestions but they're stupidly reliable, well-equipped without being needlessly complex, reasonably light, good fun to drive, big hatchback boot and they're a fairly uncommon sight. If you can live with the chavvy rear wing and you don't object to the whole vtec experience, it might be worth adding to your shortlist.
