I think I want a Zafira VXR
Discussion
I have absolutely no realistic need for even a basic Zafira, but having driven a couple through work I kind of want one. To retain some PH credibility, I would have to go for a VXR.
Like I said, I have no need for one. It's just me and the OH, no kids, and I don't lug heavy loads around on a daily basis. So, should I just go for it?

As someone who owns a Picasso, I can't for one minute imagine why you'd want one if you didn't need one.
We also considered the ZVXR, but discounted it on the grounds that it looked like a couple of parent desperately trying to cling on to their youth.....rather too desperately. Normally I don't care what others think, but only when it's a non-image kind of situation (like a Picasso).
If it looks like I'm trying hard, I hate that!
If only Alfa Romeo or Volvo did MPVs

I have a brand new (June) Zafira, (which I am very pleased with, a great workhorse with bags of room), but the VXR version was discontinued around three years ago IIRC....tbh, can't really see why you would want one of these if there is only the two of you.....One or two road tests on Youtube.
Mrs WR has a VXR Astra which she loves btw.

I you don't need the practicality, I see no reason to buy an MPV. That is the singular point of them.Like I said, I have no need for one. It's just me and the OH, no kids, and I don't lug heavy loads around on a daily basis. So, should I just go for it?
My wife drives a Zafira. Not a VXR but a 1.6 petrol. It is dullness on wheels and she treats it like a rubbish tip inside.
However it is extremely good at transporting my two kids and their friends about. Have you lots of friends?
I don't so I've never owned a car with more than two doors and four seats...

"The only way to carry 6 mates at 136 MPH." Alight it's a bit of a mish mash of the cars talents, but not many other cars can do that!
I think the early ones look great, the later ones not so much. I also can't help thinking a fast Astra wouldn't be overall nicer, apart from the higher up seats if you want that I guess.
But ultimately, screw the miserable sods on PH who discount anything with a Vx badge.

So no different to someone buying a four door M3 really? Or someone buying an Audi Rs4 Avant?Or you could view it that they still have some fire burning undeneath and want at least some performance but can't afford more extreme options?

My missus needs a 7 seater for under 10k
And can't think of anything other than a zafira vxr.
There must be other reasonable MPV options?

with some simple tuning 280 BHP is possible.
BIL has a 200K diesel Zaf, which cost him £800. He needed 7 seats for a weeks holiday, and it was cheaper than renting one. It's NOT got loads of power, but seems to be a decent ride (he's since replaced all the bushes and shocks)

So you say you dont need an MPV?
Test drive an Astra VXR and a Zafira VXR back to back. If you still want the Zafira...... Seek help. Soon.

At least with the Zafira you don't expect it to be the last word in driving dynamics, what's the Astra's excuse?
Buy what you like op it's your money, I like them and Vauxhall should be applauded for making it in the first place.
If you would really like a ZVXR then go get one! As others have said, screw what others think.
I can see the appeal of driving such a roomy car and being the VXR it will be a hoot to drive too.
If we were all being sensible then many of the cars owned by us PHers would be immediately redundant.
You don't need to explain yourself, you like what you like.

Modify the Zaf VXR.
Go to a scrappy, get some boggo standard plastic bumpers, and other external plastics, some steel wheels, (but no wheel trims and replace the VXR badge with 1.6
This. But ensure you're running around 270-280 bhp. Then go surprise a few folk. I think it'd be a hoot.Go to a scrappy, get some boggo standard plastic bumpers, and other external plastics, some steel wheels, (but no wheel trims and replace the VXR badge with 1.6
