Hello again, guys!
Following on from my other 'which car' thread in which I decided on a Civic Type R, I might be able to expand my budget by another £2000 to £6500.
I'm still happy to take the Type R but I've been turned by a few other cars. The Focus ST, the Megane R26 and the Astra VXR so I'm just looking into them.
The reg's in my budget seem to be 06 and 07, so I'm wondering if anyone can give me any information on which one you'd take based on your experiences, or ownership, or if there's anything glaringly wrong with any of those models.
Thanks!

It depends, I don't want something too loud, and I'm set on those 3 (4) at the moment. What are you thinking about?
I don't think I could drive an Impreza or an Evo, I don't really like the big, boxy style. Plus those 3 (4) cars are within my insurance range.

Out of the cars listed in your first post I'd still take the Honda, for a number of reasons, although now you're up to £6500 you can of course choose from the EP3 and FN2.
You are into budget for something reasonable and rear wheel drive now though, so that's another decision entirely - you could look at an S2000, MX5, RX8 or even a nice old 944 S2 or E36 328i/M3 if you don't mind exchanging depreciation for running costs.

Why are the cars you listed preferable to the ones I listed?
I don't really like the RX8 and the FN2 hasn't been reviewed very well, it seems to be ridiculously easy to flood the engine of the RX8 and it has high repair costs, and to be honest, I like those 3.
I don't want a BMW with 110,000 miles on the clock and pretty much every car you listed is out of my insurance price range, but thank you.
I'd still like some information on the 3 I listed.

Out the three you originally mentioned it is the one I would go for. This is my own opinion of course! I see the R26 as a bit more of a focused car than the others. Ive owned a few Renaultsports and they have all impressed! Never owned a R26 but spent a lot of time in one and drove one quite extensively, the R26 is a very capable car, quite shocking at how fast you it actually covers ground!
If you were interested in the Civic have you considered a JDM EP3? A bit more special with a diff, a few BHP more and in Championship White. Rare though and added costs on insurance for an import!

The BMW needn't have 100k on the clock - as I said in my post, that decision would be one that involved sacrificing RWD for some straight line performance - that would obviously be your decision (it's a decision I'd make every time, but everyone's different).I don't really like the RX8 and the FN2 hasn't been reviewed very well, it seems to be ridiculously easy to flood the engine of the RX8 and it has high repair costs, and to be honest, I like those 3.

Regarding the CTR, as I said you now have more choice, you don't have to look at an FN2, although I'd recommend it and advise not to go too much on reviews.

The BMW 130i is a real contender, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of them around for some reason. Regarding the CTR, as I said you now have more choice, you don't have to look at an FN2, although I'd recommend it and advise not to go too much on reviews.

What do you mean, sacrificing rwd for straight line performance? I'm just getting into cars a lot more so I'm not clued up on everything, yet.

Some cars are just out of my insurance range, unfortunately. The 130i seems to be in it, and it looks nice.
How would it be on track? I'm a regular bike track rider and would want to start using cars more too. Will it have the same kind of acceleration as the 3 I listed?

Sorry, what I meant by that was that insurance and finding a good condition car for your money mean you'd end up with a 120i rather than a 130i. RWD costs more than FWD to manufacture and it's normally found on cars that have other more expensive bits too, so that all means to go RWD you may have to compromise in another area - if the budget's fixed then that may be the performance or condition etc. As for the relative performance to the cars you mentioned in your OP, you'd have to look up the power to weight ratios. Personally I've no idea because straight line performance at this sort of level doesn't really interest me - if you're used to bikes I'd have thought the same would apply to you - surely after a motorbike, a CTR or 130i will feel just as slow as a 120d or Civic 1.4 won't it? They do to me after driving single seaters for a while.
I see what you're saying now. It does interest me because it's off season for track, and I'm just looking for something that has a good amount of pull.
I'm not looking to go mental but at the same time the cars I listed are all quick and that does attract me.
The 0-60 is similar in any case.
Again, they don't seem to be that common on ebay and auto trader. Are they generally rare? The only one I see in my price range is a CAT D.
