yes another what car thread to keep us occocpied on a Monday. wink
Now our lease on our 308SW is coming to an end in Jan we are starting to look at other cars to replace it. Guna buy this time as leasing plan would be if car is OK to keep for a longer period of time (maybe).

Im looking to get feedback about issues/problems technical or usability with the cars...
Usage would be 99% by wife, 1.5Km to school/daycare then 25Km to wife's office, 15Km straight motorway run then last 10km moderate traffic (by UK stds). Kids are 2,4,6 so still small'ish, but no prams now smile

We are looking at a 09 Honda FRV 1.8i @61k Km or a 09 Corrola Verso or '10 Verso. Local fuel prices n taxes make the diesel/petrol zero savings so engine would depend upon purchase price and percived trust worthyness. She would drive about 20k Km a year.

If you want to st a brick at the local car prices the cars can be found HERE
These might not be exactly the cars we end up getting, but are representative of price/age for here, which is far far away from the UK market prices.

The toyotas have a good reputation over here and the 'Titaani' cars come with 2 years warrantee which I guess is why they are priced higher for the KM driven.

any info would be appreciated.
Cheers

Cannot comment on the Toyota, only the FR-V

We are on our second, bought one of the last (UK) models, 1.8 ex.

Suits us (well the missus) a treat, the 3 + 3 searing position suits her, being a child-minder it is really handy! (In fact there is nothing out there at the moment with a similar arrangement as far as I can see)

We have had since almost new(60 miles) and as far as I can remember there has only been 1 warranty job, a small recall.

Fuel consumption is OK, roughly 30MPG, but she does loads of small journeys.

One thing though, it is not exciting to drive!

We had an FR-V for a couple of years as the family hack. We had no problems with it during around 30,000 miles or so we had it.

It was quite heavy on front tyres though and Honda dealers like to charge come service time.

Footwell room for the front passenger is tight and the seat wasn't height adjustable for the passenger which made it worse. The driver's seat was fine and space in the back is good too. The seating layout works well in practice. The width wasn't an issue (they're not as wide as you imagine).

It was worthy but dull.

I can't vouch for the others I'm afraid.

OK.. have found loks of threads around the internet about the toyota 2.2D having issues. new engines required etc etc...
anything else to know about the Toyota 2.0D or 1.8 petrol??

She is leaning towards a Verso after popping out to look at the FRV and thought it was OK, but interior was 'dated' in her words.. its her car so its her choice.

thanks

Hi,

We've (I use it for skip runs etc) have had a 1.8 Verso TR since 2007, it's as reliable as the reputation suggests, never really required anything more than servicing and tyres , currently on 65k and still looking good. Big plus is the interior the girls are 5 and 7 now so it's seen some action but still scrubs up pretty well. If I had to do it again I would avoid the MMT gearbox as it's probably the worst auto I've experienced. (swmbo wanted an auto)

The ride is acceptable and handling inoffensive, overall 35mpg so can't really complain.

I've got an 05 plate 1.6 verso.

It's not big enough for 3 young kids.

Very likely be trading it in tomorrow for a ford galaxy, assuming it's in good nick.

They are generally reliable but ours needed a new clutch and gearbox at 70k miles. If you want a cheap one and can buy it off me tomorrow morning???!,....

Petrol Verso is the best option. Fully flexible seating ( for 7 , not 6), and more room in the back with the 2 rearmost seats folded. Run it til it falls to bits, which is likely to be a long time.In the UK, I think the T spirit spec had a dvd player and screens in the driver and passenger headrests.
