I'm hoping to sell my 2001 LHD Smart Cabrio (600cc turbo) to France.
The car was apparently imported originally new to the UK.
No problem to change the speedo to km (use MD Star software apparently!)
The headlights are LHD according to my MOT station)
The rear fog light I have to check out, I suppose it has to be UK nearside for France!
The prospective buyer says they need a "Certificate of Conformity", any one know what this is?
The V5 has the engine no shown blank. All I can find out is that it is "on the engine!! & you may have to take the engine out to find it!

In some countries, each car comes with a certificate of conformity from new. This is issued by the manufacturer. It will probably be easiest for the buyer to get this in France - he just has to ask a Smart garage (normally they charge for this).

Foe example I paid €120 to get the papers I needed for one of my Alfas a couple of years back.

I sold a LHD Smart to someone in France a few years ago, he just turned up paid cash and drove it away. He must have sorted out the paperwork his end.
I informed DVLA it had been exported.

I'm about to export a UK Smart for2 to Greece and they also need a CofC to make the process work. I contacted Mercedes in Milton Keynes and with a £120 fee and it's pretty straighforward.

Being that it is going to France I believe you will need a CoC and a Notice Descriptive (not sure on spelling)

At Aston Martin we do a lot of these and the French market is most demanding and as a result more expensive to produce.

Certificate of Conformity was free from BMW when we took our UK E39 Touring and registered it in France.

OP

May I ask, why are you going to all the trouble and faf in order to sell it into France?

I guess its not worth a huge amount (no meaning to sound derogatory) and wonder why you are going through the messing?

Will it not sell here in the UK?
