Anyone had any experience with JDM sports and performance in Rishton, Lancashire? Chap called Baz. Been looking at a cheap RX-7 that has no history and figured I'd better get a compression test. Silly me though left him the cash to sort with the garage next door, and I'm now suspicious that he's just pocketed the £80 and pulled the figures off the internet, as 1) they seem rather too good for a 100,000km car with no history (I was assuming it will need a re-build anyway soon) and 2) happen to be EXACTLY the same 8 figures (what are the chances?!) as the first results you can find searching for Rx-7 compression tests in Google:

7.2 7.3 7.2 266
7.6 7.65 .7.55 268

Any suggestions? The car might be worth it even if it does need a rebuild soon (spec and condition etc) but if he's lied about that (not saying he has but...) then what else is he lying about with the car...?

Ring the garage next door and ask them; Say that your mate Baz said he'd do a comp test on that RX-7 so you could compare your figures to his.

First google figures sounds like a very stupid attempt to fleece imo.

Does the' garage next door' have a proper rotary compression tester? I'd wager they don't. In which case they won't be the right results.

I call shenanigans...

There's no chance an original engine on that mileage would make those figures, but benefit of the doubt, there's no reason it couldn't have had a rebuild. Those are recentish rebuild figures.

Yep ring the garage and ask them, only way to be sure.

The name rings a bell, I used to investigate breakdown policy fraud as a part of my old job.

The address looks very familiar. I'm pretty sure I've come across it a couple of times.

If it is the guy I'm thinking of, he's also connected to Jus Sports iirc. And I may have left him stranded on more than one occasion, I recall him using multiple names too.

I could be wide of the mark, but from my experience, I would be hesitant buying jap metal from most BB4 or BB5 postcodes.

Thanks all... the 'garage next door' is basically where his warehouse is connected onto the side of, so no point ringing him directly as it will be his mate smile

Details of the car, and how much? Could still be a buy if it has the right parts and is a reasonable price smile

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazda-RX7-EFINI-TWIN-TUR...

I just dropped him a text, suggesting that my Rx-7 guru friend (rather than accusing him myself) thought the figures were a little suspect being so high and the same as some online results and perhaps we could come down with a compressor to check; and he's replied very agressively about time wasting etc.... mmm... very unprofessional at least.

Those seats are worth the best part of a grand on their own.... Suggests it's a relatively rare type RZ
I'd be tempted to have a look, consider it as having a buggered engine, and maybe a good starting point.

Although I'd tell him to do one, purely on the strength of his reply!

It is cheap, I would assume it needs a rebuild, depends whether you want to deal with someone like that and assume you are buying a project.

'no hidden defaults'?

If the garage next door can compression test rotaries why wouldn't they have got the garage to do it and put the results on the eBay advert?

I like the look of RX-8s, despite Dale Lomas's dying on the Ring, but mentions in adverts of 'tested date XX/XX/XXXX' which happened to be a Sunday and with no print off in an advert didn't completely convince me. I think it's one of those tests you have to get done yourself. Even some results in adverts look a little on the low side, which at least are honest but suggest a rebuild isn't too far away.

Yeah, the default of the engine blowing up isn't hidden, it's visible to all smile

Schoolboy error. Everyone knows you should always go to about the fifth page of the google results when you're bluffing.

The car could have been rebuilt at some point but it's all a bit convenient.

I As said above, take it as having a knackered engine and negotiate based on that. If you have some extra money put aside in case and the rest of the car is good then you may get a few months out of it. Depends whether you want a project or not.

LOL...

I don't want a project. I think I'd rather spend the money on something that's been rebuilt recently/has a good history rather than the hassle of having to sort my self.

Plus his attitude has just put me right off anyway.

That being said... those RZ Recaro's are worth a stload and it does seem solid otherwise, so if anyone fancies a project and a run-in with good ol' Baz, then feel free smile

thanks all!! biggrin

Just go steal it from him, he's most likely done that himself anyway... Bet it's registered to someone else as well...
