Apologies for the cross-post but I wanted to open this up to a wider audience. There's an evening class in Weymouth to build a Westfield kit using an MX5 donor. Places are limited and include full training and equipment. This is a great opportunity to build a Westfield for a fraction of the price.

I'd have loved to do that but its a bit far.

Out of interest who funds the car and what happens to it at the end of the build?

The donor car and kit are purchased by the college. They retain ownership and presumably sell it at the end. I doubt the sale price would cover the cost of the donor, kit & training so I suspect some educational subsidies are applied. Hence why it's such a good opportunity.

I know they've done two other courses with full-time students.

7 people tentatively confirmed, 1 place left.

Here is the link to the Westfield site for the kit that we will be building: http://www.westfield-sportscars.co.uk/donorkit.htm...

Thats a great idea, few hundred miles away from me. Hell i'd even supply the MX5 and Westfield kit for us to work on providing I had a car at the end of it, why doesn't every college do this?

I agree. I reckon I've learned quite a bit of amateur mechanics over the last 12 years owning a TVR, however I'm still wary of touching some of the more fundamental components (engine out, gearbox, diff, wheel bearings, etc.).

It will be great to learn how to do some of the more advanced assembly / dissassembly.

Maybe worth suggesting to a local college with mechanical workshops (I assume such things are nationwide)?
