Commute back today I counted 3 cars driving round with no lights on at all and yes it was beyond sunset.

What are these idiots thinking is it just that they cannot see the difference between street lighting or using headlights
Is it lazy
Is it just forgetting
Is it they shouldn't be allowed onto the road.

Legal in a 30mph zone, edit: but you need sidelights, OP says no lights.

Probably numpties though. Auto light up instruments and DRL's don't help.

Often there is so much street lighting that you don’t really need headlights to see the road (not that I think this is an excuse not to use them).

Am I right in thinking that on some cars DRL's are the headlights and tail-lights and on other cars just the headlights? I think some people presume as they've got them, there's no need to use main lights not realising they have no rear lights on.

I think having sidelights on all the time as a min should be the law just like in many EU countries - and car makers can build then like that to help.

I have my lights on at all times regardless of weather/time of day. I don't understand why you'd ever choose not to turn your lights on.

Maybe they were Egyptian, that's how they drive.

More likely they were just stupid though, there's a lot of it about these days, that's why manufacturers build cars with automatic wipers, lights, cars with no dipsticks (apart from the ones behind the wheel) etc.

There should be an easy way of tipping off the police about such presumed "trivial " crimes so that they have evidence against them

Ditto brake lights out indicators not working etc.

An easy online place to log problems like pothole reporting. Maybe something via This website could be a good way or another

It could be due to illuminated dashboards, back in the day your dash was pitch black until you turned your lights on.

I think a large number of drivers don't look at the dash, or their mirrors, or road signs. That's my theory.

Last week one weaves across the road or rather going from the side to the middle to turn right I only saw then (approaching at 40mph) when they came into my headlight view had chap on push bike had lights on I'd have been aware of him much sooner.

p12 primera dash illuminates with lights off then dims when lights on. pulling out from say a petrol station where it is bright illumination then onto lit streets i can see how it happens.

I've commented on this on another topic.New type cars have their dash lights on all the time which can often cause the overlooking of the lights when starting off in lit areas.
