Why are "professional drivers" so bloody bad at their jobs?
Discussion
If it's not some redneck in his truck smashing through roadworks on the M25 and bringing the entire thing to gridlock, it's some dimwit in an Addison Lee cab who cant find a location, let alone the best route to it, despite having a SatNav. And let's not even start on the appalling driving behaviour of London buses and taxis.
Why are people who are actually paid money to drive vehicles so universally s
t at it?
Why are people who are actually paid money to drive vehicles so universally s
t at it?Because driving is actually rather boring, frustrating and tiresome, and they do so much of it they can't be bothered with it any more?
I think most lorry drivers are actually pretty decent drivers, and have reserves of patience and tolerance which I couldn't nearly match, given what they have to do all day. Makes the bad ones stick out all the more...

It's down to attitude and arrogance.
Most professional drivers think they are the bees knees - they drive more than normal people, they drive bigger cars/vans/trucks so they think they are better and criticise other drivers more.
Sure some of them put up a lot with car drivers antics.
Yet when the boot is on the other foot they dismiss their errors as trivial as they can't take criticism.
Of the 100 "professional" drivers at our company, I would say that 5 of them are bloody brilliant in terms of skill and diplomacy. 50 are average to good. The other 45 are generally very nice aimiable people in the canteen but utter a-holes on the road. When they have accidents they dismiss them as trivial and often not their fault - "It was a hit and run when I was parked up" seemed to be common until more and more CCTV units were rolled out to see that 99% of incidents were their fault.
