I have a 2.0 TDI Ibiza that doesnt start cleanly. It sort of coughs into life when turning the key. Not being mechanically minded I can't describe it any better. Driven othes that start 'normally'

It sounds like a 40 a day smoker who's just been woken up suddenly with a kick in the back. Is it worth taking to the delaers?

Weather is getting cold, are you waiting for the glowplug lamp to go out before you operate the starter?

Glowplugs are the first usual suspect - if you take it to a garage they will probably replace the glowplugs before doing anything else, unless a code jumps out of their computer.

I think with these you can't start it "before the glowplug light goes out", because (if my memory serves me correctly) the VW-Audi-Skoda-Seat products have the glowplug circuit connected to the driver's door, so they are bound to be hot enough by the time you get round to starting it.

(Unless the glowplug circuit is faulty.)

Doesn't seem to be temp related, been doing it for a few weeks in all weathers. I always wait for the glow plug light too. Maybe I should book it in anyway just in case. Cheers.
