Why go the ring, rent it for a whole day, and then turn around and say we never thought the ring time is important?

I suspect maybe it was not any quicker than the Porsche as that did sub 7 minutes (6:57 irc)

Or maybe they are scared if they release the time the Ferrari may then be able to beat it as the car didn't do a lap as quick as they hoped for...

I am sure I heard a figure of 6.43 mentioned.

More than likely they've beaten the time but think there's still more to come.

No point in setting a time now if feedback was positive but the overall result was mixed-they might have concluded that a better suspension set up or EMS will take a further few seconds off the time.

According the the Mclaren forum the 6:47 time going around was a rumor started on there that turned out not to be true and just got out of hand...

I'm sure the MacLaren is unbelievably fast, but to me a rumoured time which is some 35 seconds faster than a Carrera GT is stretching credibility somewhat.

But I might be wrong.

Saw an orange P1 on the A14 by Cambridge last Tuesday as I was filtering.

Looked like it should have just floated up and flown away - incredible thing. Unfortunately the guy driving wouldn't even acknowledge us frown let alone give it a blip.

They're still practicing. They're not going to release a figure until they're comfortable the LaFerrari* isn't going to come along a week later and take a giant slash from the sky on it. That's my layman's take on it anyway.

  • Do you say 'The La Ferrari...' or just 'LaFerrari...'?**
  • *Actually, I couldn't give a fk, it's a silly name either way.

Plus Porsche still claimed to have some time in their pocket - special edition with track tyres and a few more laps of practice might give them another 10 sec or so, making the P1 need to get into the 6min 30 zone to make it worth shouting about. I don't expect Ferrari to give a time other than their own test track. I would guess they are planning to go back when the track is a bit warmer and they have done a bit more setup to make sure they push the bar out far enough that it won’t just be retaken by the Porsche.
