This is a private sale; no warranty is implied or given. I welcome any inspection and have been as honest and transparent as possible. I am a firm believer in ‘caveat emptor’ or ‘let the buyer beware.’

I will not enter into any discussion about faults or repairs. If you are not comfortable with that, then please do not buy it.

The car is fine as far as I know. Ordinarily I would have some compassion if something I'd sold went wrong quickly (I sell max 2 cars per year, swapping my second car through boredom).

This one though, is 16 years old, Italian and less than a grand. I really don't want any comeback.

I think, legally, I can say that but is it a ish thing to put in an advert?

You can put it, just don't expect many serious bids.

Why not? It only restates what most individuals already know to be true.

"I will not enter into any discussion about faults or repairs"

If I saw that in a car ad, I'd be running away as fast as my legs could carry me.

OK cheers. Maybe I need a more subtle way of making the same point then. I hate this st, WBAC have offered £170, but it's an easy £900 on eBay Motors.

Write that on the receipt not the advert.

This. Your wording makes it sound like you think there may be an issue but you couldn't care less.

It makes it sound as if there's something major wrong with it. You'd be better off saying it as it is, that there are no known problems but it's a £1k italian car etc.

It would put me off if a private seller was putting that sort of disclaimer on his ad.

I'd think it was knackered and you were hiding it.

Whether this is true, or you just want an easy life, it's how people will view your ad.

I'm tempted to just put spares or repairs and have done with it but it would cost me several hundred quid which is a shame as the car is really nice. Anybody want to relieve me of a very nice Fiat Coupe? Caveat emptor, of course...

From a legal point of view, no I don't think you need to write anything.

But the message is: I have nothing to hide, feel free to turn up with you dad, your brother, your mate Greg who really knows his cars and an army of specialists to inspect the arse out of it - but if its borks on you the next day, then you rolled the nice and you lost this time, so phone the AA or a garage - if you phone me I'll tell you to fluck off politely, phone me again and I won't be so polite so don't even think of trying on any of this 'woe is me, someone else must be to blame' ste. I like to think of it as a sort of code smile

Just put "Sold as seen"

And write the same again on receipt. Then have them sign it. Job done.

Mentioning the words "faults or repairs" on the advert will have people assuming it's fked and run a mile...

Will take £999 and not a penny less. Or about £900. Not using the boards to sell BTW, just making conversation (and it's on the classifieds anyway).

Will you stand by the car though? Can I call you next month about that 'noise' and that it clonks 'sort of funny'?

If not, then I'll give you £250 as spare or repairs.
