Transfering a private plate
Discussion
My plan: transfer the private plate on my wife's car to the previous owner of the car (his initials so we didn't particularly want it) and transfer a plate that my dad owns, onto her car. Can this all be done in one go or do we need to transfer the plate off of her car first, get assigned a number and then transfer the new one on?
The DVLA site didn't seem to have the answer....or I was rubbish and just couldn't find it.

you can do that, download and fill in two V317 forms, send them off with the other documents and payment. (I strongly advise send them royal mail special delivery) and hope the dvla dont cock it up!
Did you try that and it worked out ok?Sir Bagalot said:
Has the previous owner of the car paid you the £105 it's going cost to put his old plate on retention?
Just saying like
Yup.Just saying like
Ive transfered a plate on to a car before Ive had a logbook for it in my name before and it went through fine. If you look at the v317 form it asks for the registered keepers name and address for the vehicle receiving the plate. It doesnt state you have to be registered keeper of both vehicles. Also its cheaper to do it this way. £80 straight transfer as apposed to £105 to go on retention first.
