I sold a car on Ebay last month on an auction. Its nice condition, all good, and I described it honestly. It sold to a bloke 70 mile away. He immediately paid me for the car (it was £1950) by paypal, but as I had stated cash on collection I returned the paypal payment.

He came the following day to collect it... walked around the car 10 times, inspected every panel, in the bonnet, boot, all 4 doors open, checked every window, every switch, radio, CD player... took it for a 10 mile test drive... then announced the engine sounded noisy... (it was normal) and offered £1500 for it. I said no.

He then tried to negotiate... but as he had now been there an hour, and was seriously hacking me off, I said the price was the price and if he didn't want it... He offered me £1850 as his "last" offer. I declined, and he said that's all the cash he had on him, and proceeded to count it out in front of me... I told him to leave. I think he believed I would give him some off and didn't even bring the full cash with him, and while I might have been cutting my nose off for £100, I didn't want to sell it to such a horrid bloke.

Good news is it sold the weekend for £2150 to a nice couple.

What are your good and bad experiences?

I've not had any really bad experiences. I did sell a car to a chap from Halifax who was very pleasant but determined to chip the agreed price. He failed.

Sold an older Volvo to a Lithuanian chap - he got the train up with his missus, took the car around the block. Paid without a murmur, very pleasant transaction.

I used to buy the blue Williams clio interior carpets from owners club forums and flog them on ebay for double and triple the prices I paid back in the days when auctions were booming. It actually got me starting on my ebay business!

Always seem to attract total muppets when selling on ebay. Sold an Alfa 156 as spares or repairs (clutch on the way out but driveable), as needed the space at short notice. I specifically said that it needed to be gone within 7 days of the auction ending. The winning bidder didn't respond to a single message I sent them until about 4 days later, when they said "I just need to wait another 3 or 4 weeks until I get paid, and then I can come and pick the car up?" Told em where to go, and sold the car on gumtree the next day, it was picked up within hours.

I bought some back issues of a classic car owners club magazine on eBay a few years ago. Some were duplicates of what I already had, so I kept what I wanted and listed the duplicates for sale. Amazingly, the now much smaller collection of car club magazines old for twice what I had paid for the whole lot the previous week!

I once bought a Mondeo 2.0 LX totally blind for £400. It served me faithfully for over a year and then the car scrappage scheme netted me £2000 off a new car.

just sold the 3 back seats out of my Multipla that was earlier in the year

sold for €12.50 to a Moldovan bloke

he turned up last night in a big sprinter van, with an empty car trailer, he'd driven up from Moldova, 3000km, he was picking up a few things he'd bought on ebay from all around Germany, showed me in his van where he'd fitted two rows of multipla seats already, he was going to put a third row in

I had a guy do a thorough inspection like that of a £510 car, commenting on how corroded the chassis was!

Also tried to bid me down but was told to cough up or fk off, even refused to knock the £10 off just for the sheer cheek.
