Weird question, ive just inherited a car which I know the MOT expires around this date. ive just logged on to the GOV.UK/VOSA site to check when exactly, but I only have the V5 and numberplate, no previous MOTs.

When i enter the Reg number and V5 reference it comes back with the 2011/12 MOT dates but says there are later tests under a more recent DVLA reference??? WTF is that all about, the car has only ever had one owner so how the hell am i supposed to guess when the MOT is due? Frigging useless as usual anything Gov related.

Anyone got any ideas?

There are two DVLA sites. One to check the current status of the MOT and one to check the complete history. Have you tried both?

The only other things I can think to suggest are ringing the DVLA (shudder) or taking it to an MOT station or garage and getting them to check.

Yeah, thanks, it comes up with the same thing on both sites. Nothing later than the 2011 test.

Have you got the latest style log book, ie is the one you have the previous style that had to be changed because some where stolen ? It was a while ago they changed them though.

Dont know to be honest, its a 2004 car and a 2004 issue date on the V5.

Sounds like you might have to ring up DVLA. I'm sure they'll shine some light on the situation.

If you only have the V5C it does not show the current valid MOT.

Just tried it with one of my cars.

There is a message at the bottom saying you need a newer document reference to get the current MOT status.

Have you not applied for a new V5 in your name?
