Been thinking about this recently, not sure why but i was, so thought i'd call on the PH knowledge base to help answer the question.

I'm thinking about model designations and badges that are shared between different manufacturers.

Originally GTi i thought might be the most popular.

There is also "Turbo" and "S2" which seem to be used a lot.

So do any of you know which is the most popular say top 10?

You missed Audi.

My own suggestion is "GT" and variations thereon.

As well as GM, there's a JDM Toyota Corsa.

Ferrari and Ford both make an F150

Renault and Audi have an R8

At one point we had a Saab Aero and Ford Galaxy, shared with the Rowntrees range of confectionery, or whatever brand it is.

Lots of LX and GLXs out there.

GM use certain names across different brands (not just the usual VX/Opel), e.g. there is or was a US market Chevrolet Cavalier & Nova, nothing like the VX equivalent.

'S' - Porsche and Lotus use this a lot, as I'm sure others do too.
'RS' has already been mentioned.
'R' - as in Honda Type R, Cayman R, Elise 111R and even Hyundia 'R spec'!
GT - Everything from the Citroen AX GT to the Carrera GT has used this.
GTi - obvious that one smile
Blue - Mercedes and VW run very close to each other on this (Blue Efficiency and Blue Motion)

I've recently seen a lot of car manufacturers associate their top trim level with their performance wing, e.g.

Audi "S-line" (with S4, S5, S6, etc.
BMW "M-Sport" (with M3, M5, M6, etc.)
Mercedes "AMG Sport" (with C63 AMG, SL63 AMG, etc.)
Lexus "F Sport" (with IS-F)

I just think its wrong to see a 520d labelled up with 'M' badges on the side. I've completely debadged my 640d M-Sport, I'd hate to even try to somehow pass it off as an M6, because its not.

(Edit: Side M-badges are fitted from the factory now on M-sport models)
