Between us my OH and I have:-
1987 BMW528i Touring
2001 SAAB 9-3 Turbo convertible
2002 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXi
1998 TVR Cerbera 4.5 (Off road for a couple more months)
1984 TVR 450i 'Wedge' (In my garage having extensive rebuild)

Currently the SAAB is insured by OH with me as named driver, The Astra is insured in my name with her as a named driver. The BMW is on a temporary insurance till I get this sorted. The two TVRs are off the road but were on classic/specialist policies.

I'm trying to find the best method to get all of the cars (when back on the road) insured for either of us to drive (no other drivers will be involved). We obviously want to keep our individual NCBs running (both 7+ years and protected) whilst not having to pay through the nose for the privilege.

Are there any insurance bods out there who can advise?

Is this not something that insurance brokers are hired to do? To do all the dirty work for the best price possible?

FWIW you can't have a trade policy as you're not a trader. (Wanted to head that off before anyone suggests it!)

A kind of fleet policy might work. I'd get on the google and get a broker to sort it out tbh.

But so many 'brokers' I have spoken to a) Only consider one car per person or fleece you for the second one. b) Won't mix classic/specialist cars from same source. c) Won't touch the TVRs (except the specialist companies, many of who aren't interested in the 'normal' cars)

I'm trying to link them all together to maximise the effects of NCB, and save money. After all, 5 cars, 2 people so they will not all be on the road at the same time!

Did Harry Metcalfe never mention the broker he used for his fleet when he wrote about it in Evo? I know he mentioned he had a broker and a fleet policy but that's about as much as I can remember.

Thanks, I never knew there was such a thing as 'personal fleet'. I'll try and get some feedback about which companies will best suit my requirements! thumbup

I use a personal broker who works for Zurich for a tailored package.

They cover our 2002 Mercedes E430 Estate, 2011 Fiesta Diesel, 1974 Stag, 1975 Jensen, and 2013 E-Class Estate.

All insured for business use, different mileages on each vehicle, and guaranteed values on the classics.

I'll be honest, I don't really save anything, in fact it probably costs a little more, but I'd rather not have five insurance renewals to deal with a year - and that's not including the two work vans I run.

....Ummmm.... DM me?

Given the quantity of vehicles and circumstance, I'm sure one of the underwriters that we use will be happy to look into a family fleet type policy. Keeping both of your NCB up to date, as well as offering the appropriate discounts for the additional vehicles.

Can't hurt?

Let me know ;-)

Thanks.

We have a Family Fleet Policy under Towergate.

Just a word of warning: It's easy as pie to join a policy with NCD but x years down the line it can be a bit of a nightmare getting companies to accept NCD from these type of policies.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind when talking to the brokers.
