So, watch out for the A13 and M25, especially at the Dartford crossing, to become chocked with lorries.

They had a ship in a few weeks back.
It had a problem of some kind, and diverted and was offloaded at gateway!
Certainly going to get alot busier on the roads over the next few years as it gets up and running!
I'm sure the authorities will do nothing to accommodate this influx, by providing no extra parking areas, trucks stops etc, in an area that is already lacking facilities.

The Zim Rotterdam. Caught fire a few months ago.

I've got some equipment on that same boat heading in this direction at the moment. Hope the same doesn't happen again!

It's a Dubai investment. The largest container cranes in the world came from China. Should've put it in the Humber near Hull. Lot's of unemployment there, and it's more central location to distribute across the country. The South East is to conjested to have put it there.

Does that include the thousand of containers that will get off one boat and get on another?

But how you get 1 every 4 seconds when it takes more then 30 seconds to actually get a container off a boat i haven't a fecking clue

And i used to work on container ships

More than one crane per ship, more than one ship in port at the same time?

My attempt. Others welcome.

How much lorry traffic is this going to generate on the A13, M25 & Dartford crossing? 3.5 million containers per year ! No idea on the split between road and train shipping, but assume 75% go by lorry, 5 days a week, 12 hrs per day. That's 14,000 lorries per day, 15 lorries every minute. One evry 4 seconds. Most of which will have to negociate the A13/M25 junction, a roundabout controlled by traffic lights! Throw that lot into the present conjestion, and chaos ensues.

My assumption is that the majority would leave/arrive by train, but as I don't even know whether there is a rail terminal there, let alone its capacity, I am but guessing.

At least they've upgraded the traffic lights:

That's a guess. There's no major rail link to by-pass London, trains use single track routes that I believe are not used for passenger trains. Correct me if I'm wrong.

eek

I have been avoiding the whole Kent/Dartford/Essex border area of the M25 for two years now. Looks like that is about to change into a lifetime of avoidance!!

Probably. We don't make things, except cars, as much as we used to, so we import cheap rubbish. Hence UK balance of payments deficite. And Germany (remember them, they lost WW2 ) have a surplus.

Where is the UK public's extra spending power going to come from though?

What I'm getting at is, is more stuff going to come in or is this new port the kiss of death to older, existing ports. (Tilbury, Isle of Grain, etc).

The number of lorries on the road has remained largely unchanged since 1951, why would it suddenly increase now?
