I have, after 13 years, bought a new car, a C-class estate to replace the - er - C-class estate. Now the old car has sat happily in the lean-to (more a garage without doors really and properly built) and never a problem, but since the new car has arrived the birds do like sitting on the wing mirrors and dropping poo on it from a great height. It's a smoke silver colour. So, still having the old car, I changed back and as usual not a mark. The colour I can only describe as virtually black but a purple/mauve tint. so after a while I put the new car back there, and the same problem has arisen. We live in the forest and it is sure and certain that it is the blue tits or great tits that are the culprits, since we have no sparrows or starlings. But why on earth should it be? SWMBO's car, a red Yaris, has never been attacked either.

Maybe the new one looks sort of like a body of water so the instinct is poo over that because it won't leave evidence for predators?

Perhaps it's something to do with new cars?

Shortly after getting my new car the birds seemed quite fond of it, and on a number of occasions found the car covered in crap while other cars in the street were unaffected.

Now after about 6 months they, quite literally, don't give a st.

Having a sneaky McDonalds, a bird alighted on my door mirror. Window was down a bit, so I broke a bit off my Chicken Legend and offered it to the bird, which took it out of my fingers, then flew off and crapped on the Merc parked next to me.

This is How It Should Be...smile

A lot of birds are tetrachromatic, some pigeons are even pentachromatic, meaning they can perceive more of the spectrum than we can - they often see in ultraviolet too.

So, while your car colour may look great to you, it could be completely different to a bird eye (something they hate, so want to try and poo out of their territory perhaps?)
