I have a very nice pit, even if I do say so myself. Until recently, it has been lit with a series of twin weatherproof strip light - you'll have seen them - twin bulbs, 5 ft long, covered in a waterproof fairly robust clear acrylic covering.

Anyway, it turns out that the 'fairly robust' stuff is not anywhere near robust enough, and the lights now need replacing. They are in a very poor shape.

So, to the question, what lights do you use, and what recommendations would you make.

Cheers

How about just fixing a fine steel mesh over the top of the lights? Shouldn't hurt the light output too much, but would protect from most tool dropping incidents. You could also add another clear perspex sheet under there for added protection.

Yeah, that is a route that could be taken. It's just a time consuming PITA, when there are better things to do.

The last straw this afternoon, when I dropped a 3 ft stilson on the last remaining light. (I do like to work with delicate stuff).

Previous ones have gone because some porker sat on it, and one before that because I dropped an 8*3 3mm steel sheet on it, but most of the time, they break because you swing into it when trying to undo a stupidly tight bolt or something.

I had thought about some very thin LED strip lights, but not sure they will be bright enough.
