Why do car manufacturers insist on displaying the amount of litres, valves and type of fuel that a particular model runs on on the rear on their cars?

For that matter, why display the manufacturer of model of the car at all?

I think Mercedes must be the ultimate culprit. Do owners really think that by having an AMG or a CD on the boot really matters?

Do any manufacturers offer de-badging as an option?

I don't think there are many manufacturers that still do this. I don't believe Ford do anymore, hell, I don't think Ford even list the variant except on ST and RS models.

Not a badge fan here.

But then I remember vauxhalls with ABS on the back in the early nineties (?), very odd behaviour.

Do any manufacturers still put the no. of valves on the back? To be fair, it was actually important back in the day and in a way it still is.

It does seem to have replaced DRLs as the thread topic every whinger starts now-a-days.

Mobile advert of product range... Who knows but all manufacturers will remove badge and any body shop can remove it if you've bought used car.

My car has no lettering/numbering/model variant badges on it at all. Just a round manufacturer badge on each end. smile

De-badging on the Merc B-class is a no-cost option. Although they leave the star on, I suppose.

Pretty sure some cars had exterior badges to designate CD player and air con options too? Might just be me..

Interesting question - are there any mass-produced cars that can be bought new with no external badging at all?

Why wouldn't you stick your company badge on something you made?

Is someone who puts a lot of badges on known as a badger?

If this is the case, does badging have a tb risk?

As a kid growing up, the badges on the boots of cars were an important thing to me as a mini petrol-head. These days if anything, badges give less info, not more. Seeing a Granada 2.8i Ghia X used to make my day and the Series 2 XJ12/Daimler Double Six with its discreet V12 badges did the same. Stop moaning OP, think of the children! hehe

Yes, once the Boeing Phantom Badger is built in large numbers, it will probably come without badging.
