Another what car thread - but with the more "senior" driver in mind!

Dad currently has a 1.4 Jazz, which is pretty good as a little around town car. Ride is a bit jiggly, brakes a bit grabby but aside from that it's fine. Yesterday he mentions "what sort of car could you get for upto 20k?".

His criteria would (probably!) be:

Nothing more than 8-10 years old
Nothing too low / had to get into (no Elises here!) he's 68 with a bit of a weight problem!
Comfortable ride

I came up with the usual suspects:

BMW 6/8 cylinder models (maybe //M)
Ranger Rover
Audi S/RS 4/6
Merc C/E/SL 6/8 cylinder models (maybe AMG)
Jag XK/XJ 8 (maybe R)

Any others? He was partial to his old Calibra (2.0, 8v... I know!) so maybe a Monaro!?!

Jaguar V8 of some flavour, can you get a supercharged XF for this money. Not an XFR just a 4.2 XF?

You'd get an SV8 no problem.

Fits all the criteria imo. Feels special, interesting to drive, comfy for wafting about when not on it, fire-breathing when you are.

I'd be going for something like this:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2013...

645ci available with under 50k miles for around £10k too. Coupe's even better value if he doesn't like cabs.

Good looking, big V8, good performance, easy entry/egress.

Exactly what I was going to suggest.

ETA. To be honest, I'd be steering him away from ///M, AMG, RS models. They may be a little too frenetic and the servicing premium may weigh heavily on him if he isn't using them to their full.

A big, lazy V8 with oodles of torque and a nice exhaust woofle will make him feel like a king.

S-Type R for that money easy? Not fashionable but I like them as barges and unfashionable = cheap.
Calibra Turbo? idk what they go for these days but factor in a couple of transfer box rebuilds silly

05-07ish CL500/CL55K for 15-20k.

Stretch for an NSX? wink

eta: 6-series is a great suggestion too cloud9
ooooooo so is Maser. Probably the most outwardly special.

Definitely this. I'd also suggest auto for ultimate magisterial wafting. Jag XF sounds like a good call, as does the CL500.
