Ok so I have my car for sale ,two people have phoned up and asked questions ,fair enough but two points ,you cant really make your mind up about a car without actually looking at and driving it.My second point is ;if the advert states certain facts about mot ,tax etc why waste time asking again on the phone, rant over.

Having a chat with the owner is pretty useful. So what if they ask what is already in the ad?

Just be pleasant and try to lead them round to seeing the car.

Its unlikely you own the only car they want so make it hard for them to think of a reason they don't want it.

Because people are thick, this does my head in as well, especially "what's your best price?" I just tell them I'm not negotiating on the phone, if they can't be arsed to come and see it I won't waste my time talking to them.

Some people usually forget & ask about the tax/mot again (i do it alot) and i'm trade. I usually get most of my cars from private sellers/autotrader/gumtree

I usually make my mind up before i see the car as i'd travel as far spain for a car (have done before) If the seller is shady & not willing to give me information on the car i'd imagine there was something wrong with the car

My next car advert will read.

Car for sale, call ......

No one reads the advert, they always call asking for the details you have already given in the advert, and tell you how much money they have, never anywhere near your asking price.

I once had someone on Ebay ask what colour the car was, er, red, same as the 6 pictures show.

Why?? Your trying to sell something and someone is trying to buy it.

I have bought all my cars over the phone.
i expect the buyer to have described it accurately, if I get there and you have made it out to be something it isn't I will walk away and you will have wasted both yours and my time.

I have also sold loads of cars over the phone and have come to an agreement on price before the seller has seen it, but I describe them 100% accurately. Had loads of people transfer funds before seeing it too.

We live in a world where we digital cameras and can take pics of any marks, scuffs etc. and get hi res shots over within minutes.

I can't be arsed and haven't got the time to drive maybe 6 hours to look at a car that is over priced, and so many people put them up over priced with every intention of 'doing a deal' so I want to know 'what is your best price?' before we talk cobblers for hours and waste a day looking.

Just my view on it.

My big annoyance is people who want to talk bks to me on the phone, email me the details so I haven't got to listen to your sales patter!! Please!

If there is a piece of relevant information which is not included in the advert OF COURSE they are going phone you. Would you rather they organise a visit, only to immediately reject it because it doesn't have the XYZ they wanted?

I will often ask about details written in the ad, sometimes because I've forgotten, sometimes because people will happily lie in ads or just write bks. Most people are more reluctant to do so on the phone or face to face.

Full service history is the most frequent example of this.

If a genuine seller can't spend two minutes clarifying then its their loss as much as mine.

Some people can. I've bought several cars that have been far away from where I live as I shop around the entire country for the best deal and in each case the financial aspects were taken care of before I saw the cars; three of them - all secondhand - I only saw once delivered to me.

Just went on a 'feel' for the person I was chatting to, getting plenty of specific photo's and videos.

Not sure what car you looked at, but I've done all my own servicing on every car I've ever owned, and IF there was a service book, I've filled it in and signed it, plus put all bills for parts, in with it.
If there was no service book, I get a little note book, and record what I've done and when.
Do not see the problem, apart from that I would never describe it as a full main dealer history in an advert. I would describe it as full service history if I had the service book and 50% of it was filled in by me.

Yeah I hate selling cars too, and I just paid for an autotrader advert too! I think I might just take my car to the auction and sell it there,

Are auction price guides on car valuation sites accurate? If so I would be willing to swollow then loss just for a stress free sale

Yes you can. I knew that if my car was as the seller had described it to me, I would buy it. I'd made my mind up - if he wasn't a liar, I wanted his car. All that then stood between me and the car was a 400 mile round trip and the right price.

I was hardly going to do the 400 mile round trip without making sure the price wasn't going to be a sticking point, was I?

Done the same thing, twice, and slightly more than 400 miles too. smile

I've not had a bite on my car, would like the room on the drive back. I'd happily put up with these s if there was a chance of getting rid.
