After driving 200 miles today to meet somebody who had told me 'everything' about the car they wanted to swap for mine I HPI'd the car just before filling out the V5C to find it was a Cat C. I'm pretty sure most of you HPI cars before buying them anyway, I just wanted to warn people of this particular seller who is well aware his car is a Cat C but decides to keep this a secret. I'm not going to put his reg number on here but it's a green Alfa Romeo 147 GTA with a private registration. Pretty much narrows it down if you ask me!! If you get offered this particular car in P/X and are unsure if it's the one I'm talking about PM me. Hope this helps people from getting caught out!

No real words came out of his mouth just muttering and more of a 'oh I've been found out look on his face'. I didn't hang around long enough for an excuse!! It also has 4 bald tyres and the airbag light on!! Oh, drives around with his son in it too! Nice guy!!

Sounds like a piece of scum.

But, I would have checked before driving that distance.

I know what you're saying but when you're told it's O.K I took his word for it and did it for piece of mind. The crazy thing is I spent £100 in fuel and 8 hours on the road but didn't want to spend £25 on a HPI before I'd seen it lol confused

Expensive mistake, but one you will never make again.

I hope.

Could've saved all my time and money if the d censored k had told me in the first place without trying to rip me off!!!
I understand he might have bought it himself without knowing and looking at the deal he was giving me he's desperate to get out of it but he should take it on the chin like a man!!

Lucky escape but only a fool would drive 200 miles to buy an unknown used car from private seller without first doing a proper HPI/Experian car data check ie before driving 200 miles to find this out.

A fool or somebody that believes there's got to be the odd decent person still around actually selling what they say they are!

Exactly this, a Cat C vehicle will have it on the bottom of the front page of the V5, a Cat D wont though..

Whilst many think we are a bunch of thieving scum, next time, pop up a pleasant request and I'm sure one of us will run a quick HPI for you, or PM me and I'd be happy to oblige.Good luck with the hunt.

Foolish, yes. Expensive... in context no - he didn't find out AFTER he'd purchased it.

The thing is the car might have only had damage to a bumper or another easily replaced part. Cat C or D are only a financial indication of damage not severity.

I'd ask before making trip like that.
