Right folks.

Some research led me to a little question.

You have 10k to spend, for some slightly irrational power hungry reason you want at least 500bhp, must be a road car. reasonable handling and accommodation would be a bonus - what do you get?

All I could think of was a Merc E55k with a remap. Any ideas?

Assuming I can keep the BM for any day I need to go over speed bumps/visit clients, my money would be going here.

C5 RS6 and a remap well over 500bhp.

I've done it ( not remap) the only thing to make sure you are fully aware of is mpg is going to be utterly rubbish and its premium only fuel too so a double smash into your back doors. Thing 35-40p per mile on fuel alone - but you have the power the noise the iconic car and man maths tells you your gambling higher fuel costs for ultimately lower depreciation.

4mpg isn't so bad for so much power. My lazy old V12 jag would manage 3mpg and it only had 300 ponies.

This is tricky seeing as I don't really like turbo charged cars (especially the tuned ones I've tried - yuk), or 4WD biggrin I also don't really like heavy cars, but I think it'd have to be to get an engine capable of 500bhp or a chassis originally designed for close to that power. The safest bet I think would e an E39 M5 (or the Merc AMG E class you mentioined) with engine work - either a supercharger or a full on intake, head and exhaust job with a remap to suit. Another choice would be a TVR of some description with similar engine work.
