Lane 1 = 3rd Exit
Discussion
Why does this happen quite a bit at this roundabout?
Am I in the wrong here - vid or is the taxi driver?
I was in the second entry lane of this roundabout (end of a dual carriageway). The road markings suggest I can go straight on (2nd exit) or right (3rd and 4th exits)
The left lane is marked as left (1st exit) and straight on (2nd exit)

Whilst the taxi driver was obviously in the wrong, you should have seen that coming a mile away!Am I in the wrong here - vid or is the taxi driver?

I know, I did, but part of me thought, "no, not again, this always happens, he'll just be driving in a lazy fashion and straight-lining the bend a bit".But no, I was right, I should have known.
I had a rant about this area a while ago, and called it the "St Helens b
d Triangle" for this type of driving. I'll have to find it.The issue there is the lines on the roundabout. Yes from what happened the taxi driver is on the wrong. But if no line was present, you could have approached that roundabout in either lane and justifiably taken the exit you did. If there had been no lines on the round about, you would have been more observant to what he taxi was doing and given he hadn't idicated left, would have expected him to continue round to next exit.
The problem is the nanny state paint lines everywhere telling us where we should go, instead of teaching us how to use roundabouts properly so we can use our own judgments.

Taxi driver is in the wrong. From the lane you were in you would have had right of way to take the exit the taxi driver should have taken too.
Well dodged though. I tend to drive defensively so wouldn't have overtake the taxi had I been taking the exit he was "supposed" to take from road positioning as I'd be expecting this chaps behaviour.

Had something similar yesterday, a learner driver taking the 'shortcut' around the roundabout. Fortunately I had already analysed her driving, and when I saw her next to me, I had dropped back. Instructor waved an apology.
Just never be next to anyone one on a roundabout.
PS Taxi at fault. You were late recognising his game though.
