Hi,

Advice needed.

I am looking at purchasing a really really old (1989) VW LT35 horsebox.

It has just been MOT'd and came out with 3 advisores:

1. Slight binding to rear brakes - the seller said this is due to the new brakes, pads and shoes. I have no idea if this could be true?? If not do you have any opinions on what could cause this/cost to resolve
2. OSR brake pip has corroded - Any ideas on the cost to replace this and any potential problems which may arise as a result
3. Play to the OSF wheel bearing - Again any ideas?

If anyone has any advise even if its DO NOT TOUCH THIS LORRY please feel free to leave me your opinions.

1989 is not 'really, really old' in horsebox terms! smile

That lot shouldn't cost too much, find a friendly local mechanic. I reckon less than a couple of hundred quid unless there's a big surprise in there somewhere.

Can you get the seller to knock a few hundred quid off to cover it?

All sounds easily sorted but budget at least a few hundred quid unless you're doing the work yourself - mot wont highlight serious engine problems so be careful

From lots of experience.... Important stuff with all supposed lightweight horse boxes- what's the box floor really like? What does it weigh empty? What's the loading ramp like? By the way Most of them are at the limit with a 13h pony on board. If those questions are answered ok then the MoT stuff isn't too bad in the hands of a good local horse box mechanic.

Good luck!

Get rid of the horse - no need for a ropey old 'oss box. Win win.
