Read the story before jumping in, (I wonder how many don't).

I was walking on the pavement, when a chav on a mountain bike came around the corner, and hit me, we both went down.

Luckily I wasn't injured, I called the rider something that rhymes with "cooking fat", and started to walk away.

Only to have the chav run up to me, and say he wanted my details, when I asked why he wanted them, he said so he could claim for the damage to his £2000 bike.

First, I don't think his bike was worth 1/4 of that, second, he was on the pavement(and no it's not one designated as a shared area), and third, does he think people have pedestrian insurance.

As I walked away, he was calling the police to tell them I was leaving the scene of an accident, I was almost tempted to wait at this point, it would have been an interesting conversation with the police, but I had an appointment to get to.

Ask to borrow his 'phone so you could contact Hadanaccidentclaims4uisthatasirenIcanhear.com? Seriously, did he think you were in the wrong for having the temerity to walk on the footpath?

I personally would have given him a good shoeing.
He should not be riding on the pavement.

Another vote for smacking the tw@ and then walking off, after flinging his bike under the nearest passing bus. What a complete and utter moron. Pavements are for people, roads are for bicycles.

Typical of some sectors of society sadly. Always someone else's fault.

I'd have done exactly the same as the Op. Would have been hard to resist giving him a slap but you just know that would come back to haunt you.

OP, you should have apologised and paid for the damage you caused.

Unless it was in Derby, where Cycle city have converted almost all footpaths to shared bike/pedestrian lanes.

I'm upset.

I wanted you to have hung around or better let him have a go at making a claim.

What a knobber.

Why does everyone have to blame someone these days?

What ever happened to "sorry old chap, I fooked up a bit there. Roads are a dangerous place so chanced it on the pavement. Apologies".

Seriously, how hard is that?

Thinks... could it be something to do with a feline chef?

You should have taken his name and address. Hopefully with a bit of CCTV, you could have made a claim for personal injury or waited for Police and had him charged with reckless assault.
