Bentley Continental GT3: Time For Tea?
Bentley confirms drivers and a December debut for mighty GT3 racer; behind the scenes vid tells the story

Ready? Good. The above photo shows Bentley's newly confirmed three-man driving squad of (left to right) Steven Kane, Guy Smith (winner of 2003 Le Mans in the Bentley Speed 8) and Andy Meyrick as they ready themselves for the Continental GT3's debut at Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi on December 13 for the Gulf 12 Hours.
It was only yesterday that Chris Harris was enjoying the drive of his life in the McLaren 12C GT3 and waxing lyrical about the quality and variety in the modern GT3 field. Well, that quality and variety will be enhanced further still with the arrival of the Bentley, no matter that this hulk of a coupe might look somewhat (read, gloriously) incongruous among the McLarens, Porsches, Ferraris and Merc SLSs that currently dominate.
The video details some of the work that's gone into making the Continental GT V8 into a competitive GT3 car, not least the stripping out of a tonne (literally) of luxury fripperies to bring it down to what programme director Brian Gush calls a 'fighting weight' of 1,300kg.
They wouldn't be doing this if the car was going to be wildly off the pace so we'll have to assume the various weights and measures regs have been suitably massaged to give the Bentley Boys a fighting chance. Regardless, it's a magnificent looking machine with a burly V8 and side exhausts. Rule Britannia and all that!
It looks cracking, like others have said its very fitting with Bentleys history and style.
The Blancpain series could do with a merge with GT1, and to be honest WEC could do with merging its 'Am' class to
GT3 specs. Its all a litte distorted, and rather weird as Harris mentioned in his video with regards to power output at the moment, although that said power restrictions aren't exactly new!
I hope this pulls some attention toward the Conti V8 road car.
Because the Conti body shape is pretty familiar, I think the new V8 Conti is rather overlooked. This is a mistake - it is a very, very , very good car. Quite different to the W12.
I hope to have a go in the road going V8 in a few weeks. You should hear the new sports exhaust it comes with - sounds absolutely fantastic !

It isn't in GTE either, it is built to GT3 regs, so not sure why there is hate about it being in GTE.
GT1 is dead and buried, whereas Blancpain is running to GT3, as are the FIA series and the nationals, so not really any reason to merge.
No point making WEC GT3 compliant, because the aim is that the cars are the same as the factory or pro teams in GTE Pro, plus if it is really wet, the GT3 cars tend to be faster due mainly to ABS so it would really mess things up if the top Pros in factory cars were being soundly beaten by 60 year old portly Americans in a 3 year old car.
