Maybe it's my low intellect... but I can't for the life of me understand the DVLA website.

I've currently got a private plate on my car which was purchased as a gift. I'm looking at selling my car privately in the next few months and want to put the original plate back on to sell it.

Which forms do I need to fill in from the DVLA to get the car back on its original plates?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Cheers,

Tom.

Do you want to put it on another car, or just retain the personal plate?

https://www.gov.uk/personalised-vehicle-registrati...

That site has it all. smile

Use form V317, put the private plate on retention (£105) or on another car (£80). If the origional plate is still available then it will be reissued to the car. It its not available then an age related plate will be issued.

You know you also have to send off the MOT, if it has one, to be changed to the new reg.

I have a personal registration i had for a birthday gift. I like it but does my head in needing to pay to transfer/ retain it. The plate has been paid for once so i own it, shouldnt need to keep paying. I would understand a small admin charge but just seams like we get ripped off.

You never actually own it. It is always property of DVLA

Yeah mine was a gift. When purchased, the admin fee's were included so it didn't seem too bad.

I'd no prior knowledge of private plates, the process and certainly the costs.

Won't be bothering with a private plate in future - Rip off.

Cheers for replies though chaps.
