What a lovely bitterly cold dry day with light traffic today.

I could certainly feel that the car had more grunt due to the lower temps and as it was clear opened the taps WOW incredibly fast.

Just keep forgetting how quick a C5 RS6 is - its a beast with a lovely 8 pack on steroids wink.

What a great car smile.

I didn't realise you had an rs6 mate. Enjoy.

Certainly better than being stuck at work in the bloody cold air! Enjoy it!

Keep thinking about chopping my E39 M5 in for one of these, just not sure that I could live with the Auto Box.

Have you driven an E39 M5 WB? Do you know how they compare?

Why, did you think that it was just another foolish, drunken attention-seeking fantasy?

After looking at my bank balance at 6.45am this morning , i made the most lacklustre trip to work ever.
Maybe i should have just enjoyed the boost.

Wow! What a bright, crisp and cold day we're having.

I went downstairs and hit the over-ride on my brand new wall mounted condensing boiler. I could feel the unit sucking in cold air and feeding it into the roaring flames at its heart. Almost immediately it began pumping scalding water into the radiators and the temperature rose to tropical levels. I just knew the dense air was giving better burning potential in the core of the system.

Wow! I've got a great boiler.

If it's turbocharged, shouldn't it make the same boost irrespective of ambient pressure and temperature?

Save money on a remap by only driving when it's cold.

Air is denser ,so in reality more oxygen.You could be right though , modern ECUs may pull it back a little bit to normal parameters.

Not always. Turbocharging heats the intake air.
If the intake air temperature gets too high the ECU will back off boost, timing etc to protect the engine.
Especially if the intercooler isnt big enough (or none fitted)

Same boost yes, but not the same density.

d = p / (r * t)

E.g. at 2bar with 20c then 2c...

d = 200000 / (287.05 * (20 + 273.15)) = 2.377 kg/m3
d = 200000 / (287.05 * (2 + 273.15)) = 2.537 kg/m3

Thus lower inlet temps = higher density = more oxygen smile

I didn't know Welshbeef doesn't have an RS6, I was under the impression that he didn't have a Porsche.

Yes, I know he's come clean about that, but I simply couldn't resist and if he's daft enough to start such an attention whoring thread, it would be rude to let the opportunity to have a dig pass.

By the same token, damp leaf strewn roads are hardly the ideal place to enjoy the notional extra power you may or may not have.

Over confidence in my RS2 in similar conditions led to a not so neat 360 and providence alone saw me and the car unscathed.

Be careful out there, conditions are 'sub prime'. biggrin

Possibly not a problem if your car doesn't actually exist though.
