Hi everyone
My name is David and I am a retired Mechanical Engineer and a "dyed in the wool" petrol head,I raced motorcycles from 1967-1989 both on club circuits and the hallowed tarmac the is the "Island".
I watch all form of motor sport from classic hill climes to the head banging top fuelers at Pod.
My biking days are just about to end with the sale of my current bike a 2011 Harley super Glide with a 110 cubic inch big bore kit not the fastest bike I have owned but enough torque to ride up the side of a house (photo in profile), I have two old injuries that have come back to haunt me (knee & elbow) which make 315kg of Harley a chore
.
I now have the hot's for a Caterham so will wonder over to that section and chat to the dudes in the know!
regards
David

Welcome.
You need to take a lot of posts in here with a whole sack of salt, as many are teenagers wth chips on their shoulders. But there is a great wealth of knowledge too.
I've had three Caterhams and love 'em to death (poor turn of phrase I think). www.SadGit.net

Welcome to PH!
Its an awesome place to be!
You a big Harley fan?
I did the 100th Anniversary back in 2003 (granted I was a passenger, but I was only 11 then!) and have grown up around them, my dad currently has a Road King and 2 Fatboy's and has owned a bunch more including some Scremaing Eagles (Electraglide and Vrod).
Not bought a bike yet myself as I'm more of a car guy myself, but would love a Sportster as a first bike!

Hello David, and a very warm welcome
Good to see some new members with such a great 'petrolhead' history like you obviously have - the sort of people whom make this site as great as it is.
I'm also an ex-bike racer (retired
) with similar injury problems! I haven't had a bike in any form for a few years now at all...just cars and the occasional foray out on a bicycle is my limit now.
I hope you stick around and don't get too jaded by some of the more flippant, arrogant and downright nasty posts that occasionally appear, and keep the faith to engage with the more useful contributors!
Overall, for 'the internets'...this is still a great site with an awful lot of fabulous, interesting people on it, and we still retain a level of standards with regard to posting - too much in the way of abuse and arguments is frowned upon, as is bad / lazy grammar, punctuation and presentation. Which all long-time users subscribe to, and rightly so. There is a huge wealth of knowledge and help on tap here - which I guess is why I am still here after so long too!
Enjoy, and if you have any questions or run up against any problems - by all means PM me

Sadly all my "historic" records where on 35mm neg and got lost in a house move about 20 years ago including a shot of me shaking hands with "Mike the Bike" at the 1967 TT and also shots I took of the man himself in the paddock a couple years later with The DUKE when he came back and showed the doubters who was still "The Daddy" halcyon days.....

You can expect folks here to suggest the custard test if you "claim" you lost the pics. All will become clear in time!
