Bit of a long shot. Does anyone know of any performance car hire places in the UK that are likely to hire out something like a C63 AMG / XFR / RS4 / M3 to a 27 year old for an extended weekend? Doing some advanced planning to drive to Monza for the F1 next season. Took an XJR to Spa this year and I've got the daft idea of taking a bigger engined car for the next F1 road trip.

Rented an F-Type V6S from Avis for my wedding this year. Cost ~£600 for two days rental, mileage limit 100 miles/day. The deposit (paid up-front) was about £2k.

Would cost a fortune though, the deposit is huge and you're limited to 100 miles a day. I bet the excess mileage would add up!

Driving a hired performance car a minimum of 2000 miles will be eyewateringly expensive, it could cost 2k in mileage fees alone.

You can hire a 911 from avis for £750 for 3 days but that is with 100 per day they don't even seem to quote the excess mileage charge, found it £2 per mile on the 911, £4150 before fuel!

I couldn't find the excess mileage cost, but the 458 has an eye watering £15,000 insurance excess in the event of a write off! I guess it's designed to make you kind of careful with it, which it probably would.

Safe bro, deffo insured yeah?

I figured the mileage would be the real issue. Looks like I'll just have to buy something substantially cheaper instead frown

But surely you'd personally take out an insurance to cover off that £15 k worst case scenario.

Buy it, drive it, enjoy it and then sell it. What's the worse that could happen wink

Not in the position to buy the road trip car yet but I will trawling the classifieds around April/May to see what is available in the budget.

Fly to Germany and rent from Avis. They partner with Porsche so it's only 200 euros a day. I don't think there is a mileage restriction either and you can rent from 25 years up.

Strictly speaking, you can only drive it in Germany and Austria though so you would be bending the rules. But, Porsche in Germany means ring trip!

£1800 for the dates I want, £1600 for the XFR. Both cars have a maximum of 100 miles a day and driving outside of the UK is extra.

Time to get saving for something. Not sure if I should go barge approach again (maybe an X350 XJR this time?) or something different.

It isn't the daily cost it's the mileage allowance, fine if you just wanna slide round the ghetto for a couple of days not so good if you want to drive to monza and back.

I would imagine so. I certainly wouldn't want the risk of a £15k bill.

Not sure I'd want to rent a car for quite that long. wink

possibly a company in Manchester. Elliots they are called.

With these extreme excess mileage charges, its no wonder I constantly hear of both hire companies and hire users calling out mileage correction techs for around £100/£150.

And you can insure the excess too for not too much.

I don't really want to break a bunch of laws by hiring it from somewhere and getting the mileage "corrected".
