My dads sold his caravan and got a static so has decided to get rid of his 09 Shogun as it drinks fuel for fun.

He's not arsed about having a posh badge on the bonnet and he has looked a the Nissan Qashqai 4WD.

It has to do 40mpg, would prefer 4wd, relatively new, estate sized, £15,000ish...

I thought id ask you lot as i have no interest in the type of cars hes been looking at..

He doesn't like the Yeti, nothing to do with the badge he doesnt like the styling. I have mention the CRV and the outback he will like i think.

A idtec auto crv will be a strong contender. It's got more interior space than the qashqai, better interior quality too, I'd also say it rides a little better than the Nissan

Jeep Patriot / Compass
Skoda Yeti
Vw Tiguan

All of the above will easily achieve 40mpg

My dad has recently bought a 2010 Rav4 D4D that fulfills your criteria, it averages over 40mpg and has a good rep for reliability.

Seems like a nice enough thing.

Octavia Scout. You'd comfortably get into a 2011/ 2012 model for that budget. Any of the engines will do 40mpg. 1.8 TSI is quite sprightly for what it is and very well rated by owners, or the more common 2.0 TDI suits it well particularly with the DSG 'box.

Exactly what I was thinking when I saw the thread title.

1.8 TSI does tend to do well in reviews - be surprised though if it can do the full 40 mpg in a Scout though.

2.0 TDI with DSG would seem to the chap for the job.

How many miles per year does he do?
Doing 10000 miles per year, the difference between 30mpg and 40mpg is £500
If the car has been reliable and he enjoys driving it, then better the devil you know..

Sensible and I agree or the same money will get him a Jeep Wrangler 4 door about 3 years old. Only saying as I've always fancied one meself. Had one in Greece for a day and loved it but it was the thirsty 3.7 V6 petrol model not the Mercedes Diesel 4 pot 2.7 that they sell over here.
