I did search but couldn't find anything...

Road testers can drive a super/sports car once and then make or break it's reputation with a few well chosen paragraphs

But how long does it really take to get to know a car and it's pros and cons?

I've seen long term road tests on the everyday stuff but never a high end hyper car...

I suspect the real exotica is rarely available for anything other than short tests tbh.

Can`t see the likes of Lamborghini/Ferrari/Pagani/McLaren etc providing long term test cars and most magazines doing long term tests actually buy an example of the car they want to test and then sell it again at the end of the year/test period.

Not really a viable option on a £200k supercar, which in most cases will often be a weekend toy to the actual purchasers anyway.
I bet most Pagani owners spend their weekdays in the back of an S500 Merc.

McLaren lent a long-term test 12-C to EVO magazine and they certainly haven't been shy of pointing out its problems. Its been with them quite a while.

Unless you feel a 12-C is a 'everyday'. I think it takes a good 1000 miles, trackday and an MOT to 'know' your car.

Let's not forget Simon George sharing day to day life with his Aventador, and Paul Bailey sometimes sharing life with his Porsche CGT (going back some years on that one.)

Simon George still shares his experiences of 458 and the high mileage murci doesn't he?

I always take short term car reviews as a summary and personal opinion of that reviewer. If the reviewer has liked cars in the past that you have personally enjoyed then it gives an indication as we are all seeking different things from driving experience.

If they have had the car a week or so that's enough time, its nice when magazines print how many miles the car has covered.

TopGear are probably the only exception as they have so many viewers no-one could refuse them. Apart from MG Rover that time with the CityRover hehe
