I do a lot of driving and being that I don't tend to speed but my car does more than 65 I tend to find that me and my Mazda 6 are often in the middle lane.

I have come to the conclusion that if I get tailgated it tends to be an Audi Driver.

Any others see the same.

Why don't you spend as much time as possible in the left hand lane, only moving out to the middle to execute overtaking manoeuvres? You may well find that solves much of the problem.

Amusing story......

I have an M3 (that's not the amusing part) at the weekend was driving along a 30mph dual carriageway in the outside lane when I come upon an individual doing 19mph, I may have gotten a little close..... The mofo did an emergency stop on a green light just passed "the line".... Guess what. I hit him. Not hard at all but enough to shag my bumper.

I suppose I got my comeuppance.

Although to be fair why a stop like that on a green light.
Bloke was old and polish, ended up going pur separate ways as damage was minimal to both.

Why were you both in the right hand lane what was wrong with the left?

.....and why would you ever get so close that you hit a car that only slowed down 19mph. My rule of thumb is, if someone is driving very slow in the outside lane they either doing it to be an arse or they are clueless. Either way you can expect them to do something stupid so adjust your driving to suit the conditions.

i deal with tailgaters by either left foot braking slightly , while flooring it in 3rd gear , watch them disappear in the mirror , i only do this when i am being tailgated on a single track roads where the option of the person overtaking is non existent , i dont do it on motorways or dual carraigeways because i understand they may be concentrating on the fast lane to spot and opportunity and may swerve when they see my brake lights . i also readjust my windscreen washer jets to spray convertibles in the summer lol. i find the most common suspect to be bmw 1 series drivers , ford focus , land rovers and for some reason kia drivers

My tailgating story:

Single carriagway A-road (30mph limit), clear of traffic in front but pretty miserable conditions, rain and a slight mist.

I was travelling at 30mph or a touch over yet some arse in a VW polo decided to tailgate. I've had this before on the bike and a quick glance behind sometimes makes the driver back away. It didn't work this time however so I decided to slow a little, approx 25mph although to be fair there was a staggered junction on a crest coming up so not entirely unreasonable.

Now for the childish part, just after the crest comes a NSL fairly straight and well viewed section of road, I dropped from 6th to 3rd slowing a bit further until I noticed him pull out to overtake... I probably only used 1/3rd throttle but pulled a large gap and giggled like a girl hehe

Not big or clever but was bloody funny to me.

Everyone makes mistakes i suppose smile

I think this bloke was clueless and not being an arse. Like i said, i got my comeuppance.

I was in a hurry, and bloke going very slowly, got closer than i should have, then all of a sudden they were at a standstill. Oops.

Probably wont make that mistake again in a hurry......

If he was used to driving on the right he may have been confused about which was the overtaking lane and was used to driving in the right hand lane unless overtaking. I find a lot of drivers of foreign registered cars can get confused like that, not to mention British people abroad sitting in the left hand overtaking lane the same way.

Personally I find if I'm driving in thick traffic with no chance to go faster for what's in front or move over for what's to the side it's women in Minis who tailgate me, usually young blonde women in white Minis their daddies have bought them who are texting instead of seeing they're about to drive into the back of me.

Nothing like a bit of stereotyping.

I get tailgated quite a lot. I expect they think it's either being driven by a young woman or someone who prefers man love. I try to stick to the limit... because... well, it's the law, isn't it?

I have an M3, M5, M32 and M48 all quite close to me.

Tedious driving roads though.
