Had a look and couldn't see if this had been mentioned.

What do you think? Personally I think it's ridiculous and I'm waiting for them to ban talking to passengers and listening to the radio.

To be fair, the danger comes from distraction. And a large part of the distraction factor actually comes from holding a conversation with a person not present (arguably a passenger could be in sympathy with driving conditions if they were there). It's not all about the practicalities of having to hold a phone handset although that would be even more distracting again.

I can't see it happening though. Whereas it's intuitively obvious to anyone that driving along balancing a mobile handset between your chin and shoulder, or holding one with one hand, is going to be impair your driving ability that's not the case with a hands-free. And the technology is now well established. Plus, you've got to draw the line somewhere. Listening intently to music is also going to impair your driving to some extent.

1. They know best.
2. They've only got our best interests at heart.

3. Due to points 1 and 2 above we don't need to bother ourselves unduly thinking about it.

4. Given the above wouldn't any right thinking member of society send them a cheque to help their charity to continue to make the world a better place for us all? Don't forget to include your name and address so they can claim the tax on your contribution.

But if talking hands free is too much of a distraction for someone then how about roadside advertisements? Personally I think if someone can't hold a conversation hands free while concentrating on the road then they shouldn't be driving anyway. If I'm on mine and I come to heavy traffic I say "Hold on a minute" to the person on the other end of the call.

I've done it myself. It happens to the best of us.

If BRAKE! and IAM made it about raising driving standards, drivers would drive better everywhere even when they're in the car alone not talking to anyone.
