So why not do this at the weekend or during the night? I remember going to the M25 some years ago to see the largest load ever moved on UK roads. That was at 1:00am

I saw one of them on Sunday on the M1 at J11 around 08:15 in which case they are moving at weekends.

Pffft. One lane open. Got stuck in the traffic caused by a transformer (I think) blocking the whole of the M1 on a weekday, I hit the tail back North of Nottingham, headed off on the by ways and passed over a bridge further south where I could see the culprit, rejoined an empty motorway.

The Highways Agency dictate when the load is to be moved, not the haulage company.

Good old BBC, a bit late with the news as usual. It was moved over the weekend.

It was the weekend. Climb back in your box.

It amazes me the amount of loads wider than 1 lane that are moved during peak times, by wider than a lane, I mean too wide for an HGV to get past without going into the 3rd lane. They just end up being a rolling road block. Usually it seems to be static caravans/mobile homes.

I was going to say that this was on the M4 on Saturday morning.

They really ought to move these things at the weekend though.

50% correct then. Should've moved it at night.

2 of us spotted them in the morning so they could have been moved during the night, or with a slow long load in a convoy they thought it safe to travel in daylight. ?. Who knows.

Which makes you 50% wrong don't it? There are a number of reasons why a heavy load moves when it does, including the agreement of each police force whose area it passes through, the DFT, VOSA & not least the shipping company schedule.

Still, just for a change, you can fire up your angry keyboard & have a go from your position of blissful ignorance can't you?

Because if the driver has a limited number of hours, fixed distance to travel and the company has a budget to get it to its destination then they will transport it when they can. There may be other sections of the route that can only be driven at specific times, such as only being able to pass through a town at night or closing a bridge to other traffic overnight.

And with something that big going to a boat there is the posibility they need to catch a specific tide to get out safely. Of course they could be doing it to piss Robinessex off.

It definitely was moved Saturday morning... I drove past Membury services (Westbound) at around 11am and saw the 'convoy' sat in the through lane of the services getting ready to set off. Lots of police and highways vehicles around it.
