Hi

Fixing up my leaky Avensis this coming weekend (thanks for all of your help in the other thread). Just wondered where you would suggest getting paint from? I need aerosol and lacquer.

Toyota sell just 50ml cans at £10 a pop, plus £8 for the lacquer. I appreciate it's a rare colour (I've only ever seen it on one other car with my own eyes) and it's an old car (1999) but this seemed to be quite pricey for such a small amount (of which I will need probably 3 cans).

Any suggestions and recommendations from experience on where to go?

Halfords and others can custom mix paints. The cost is the same but the cans might be bigger - I don't know.

A Local company called 'Metalflake' mixed up a 500ml aerosol can in the correct old Leyland colour for about £14 if I remember correctly.

So the halfords paints are celulose that can react with other types of paint so you really need to know what kind of paint you need, also with clearcoat, 2k clears contain some really nasty chemicals that shouldn't be used without an air fed mask. Can you say a bit more on what you're doing, are you doing a large or small repair, in a paint booth or on the drive. This time of year with current temperatures are not good for painting anywhere other than a proper booth.

John.

It's a repair on my beater. Above the windscreen the leading edge of the roof has rusted and has begun to let moisture in.

My FiL is helping me kill and fill, it's just to put some paint over the top of the primer etc. It's a £700 car with a paint either scratched or nicked on every panel. I just don't want the Onslow look hence putting some purple down.
